Being a longtime resident of Hartford, Connecticut, I am always enthused to hear of positive developments in the city. With the recent launch of the Hartford Colonials professional football team, a renewed sense of energy and a large amount of enthusiasm are being shared by many people throughout the Greater Hartford area.
The Hartford Colonials are one of six teams, including the upcoming UFL Virginia team in the United Football League. This professional football league began is first season in the fall of 2009 and is continuing to grow at a steady rate.
The response to this professional football team’s presence in Hartford, Connecticut has been extremely positive. The 2010 season is the first season of play for this team and they are gaining new fans every day. Before the Hartford Colonials were formed, this football team was known as the New York Sentinels and they played the 2009 UFL season in stadiums in New York and New Jersey.
Ever since the Hartford Whalers NHL hockey team left Hartford in the late 1990’s, many local sports fans have been bemoaning the fact that no professional sports teams call Hartford home. Enter the Hartford Colonials. This UFL football team is playing its home games at Rentschler Field, which is actually located in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Rentschler Field is situated just a few miles east of downtown Hartford and is easily accessible from Routes I-84, I-91 and Route 2. The area surrounding the football field features many excellent restaurants, including several top – rate pizza restaurants.
The Head Coach and General Manager of the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials is Chris Palmer. Previously, Mr Palmer was the Head Coach of the NFL Cleveland Browns football team, quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants and was also affiliated with the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots and Houston Oilers football teams.
Ticket prices for United Football League games are considerably lower than prices charged for National Football League games. Single and Group admission tickets are available for all Hartford Colonials games and Season Tickets are also available. I personally know several people who have recently attended a Hartford Colonials football game and every one of them has expressed nothing but positive feedback regarding their experiences at the game.
Lower Level seating, Upper Level seating and Premium seating are offered at Hartford Colonials home games at Rentschler Field. This stadium opened in 2003 and holds approximately 40,000 people. It is well – known as the home location of the University of Connecticut Huskies football team and now, it is also the home field of a professional football team. Major concert events and other sporting events are also held at Rentschler Field.
From a Hartford, Connecticut resident’s point of view, the arrival of professional football in the Hartford area is a very positive development. The presence of the Hartford Colonials has created a buzz that is evident in all parts of the city. It is now common to see Chris Palmer talking on local TV sports reports and clips of Colonials games are now common on those sports reports. Hartford Colonials football games are usually broadcast on television and they are also broadcast on ESPN Radio 1410 am.
All things considered, the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials are a great addition to the sports landscape in Connecticut. The interest level in this team among Hartford area residents is high and new fans are hopping aboard the Hartford Colonials bandwagon every day.
