As I sit here in wait for the demons to come and take me away my life flashes before my eyes not a life long lived and certainly not one to be remembered for. I await my destiny feeling that there must be something more for me out there in wait, and just then as the demons flew upon me. out of nowhere a javelin struck one of them just above the ear, the cracking of bone pierced my ears as I looked in a half daze upon the women who had saved me.
She spoke out and the demons fled. Enough of that though, I suppose you would like to know just who I am now wouldn’t you? I was once a happy network technician working for the prestigious networking company, ‘paradigm industries’. That is, until they came… The demons came from underground in a flash one day and I was forced to defend myself by any means necessary
Being nothing more than a network technician I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing in such a situation and that’s how I found myself to be here, cornered in a room full of demons being saved by a women whom I’ve never met before. “You, what are you doing there?” she asked, still stunned and amazed to be alive, I could not respond.
“Well what is your name then?” she then asked, and I barely managed to stutter out “I’m j-j-j-Jacob the l-l-l-local network tech”. that was all she asked, the next thing I knew I was following this women though I still had no idea what she was or where she came from. With a curious expression I asked ” What is your name beautiful?” trying to be neither too forward or too formal.
She responded quickly as if in a hurry “Janelle of the “extrinsic tribe”.” An answer like that left me with even more questions, but now was not the right time to ask them. As we walked the halls the demons where growing in numbers. Suddenly without the slightest notice a demon flew down from the ceiling, but without so much as a notable twitch it was already dead. The way this women handled herself I thought to myself she couldn’t possibly be human, and she is definitely ‘not‘ from around here.
As we approached a small dimly lit room, “We are here” she said. “and where exactly is here?” I felt compelled to ask, though the answer may have seemed obvious to her, I had no idea what she was talking about. Again she spoke “This is the room of prophets, look just upon that wall, and you shall find the answers you seek.” as I looked on the wall I noticed something odd, it appeared to be a picture of me! The mural upon the wall depicted me holding in my hand the head of a demon, while the demon horde bent over on one knee as if to worship me.
“You are the one we have been waiting for.” Janelle said. “It has been a long wait, but we were sure you would appear one day. The demons have been waiting to.” Suddenly it dawned on me that this might be the reason I’ve always felt as though there was more to me than just being a network technician, but this is hardly what I had imagined.
I would have thought one day I would be a great coder, and own my own operating system, or design a military computing solutions center, but this, this is just insane. “How can you be so sure it’s me!?” I asked Janelle. Before she could answer we were attacked by another group of demons.
This time Janelle just stood in the corner and watched. Forced into the corner opposite Janell I looked over as if to cry out for help, but she was unwavering. As my fate was nearly decided, I felt something strange come over me. My body began resonating with a field of power that was not present before, and I was no longer in control.
Impulsively I reached out to a demon’s head, and as my hand grew closer it began to implode. With a splash of blood squirting from the neck of a shrunken head demon, the remaining demons fled. “That is how I am sure it is you we seek” Janelle replied to my earlier question. Still stunned at the events that had unfolded and the energy I was able to harness, I asked “What happened?”
Janelle began to explain to me that neither me nor her, were from this world. Apparently we had been born in a distant land controlled by the tyranny of these very demons, and bred with the power to slay them, but at birth a gateway had been forced open connecting these worlds and because of my high Chi I was pulled through.
Janelle remained on the other side of the gate not yet strong enough to pass. forced to endure the demon onslaught until the gate stabilized enough for the remaining demons to pass through the gate, Janelle fought for her very life. Apparently me and Janelle where the heirs to the demon throne, but had been cast out by an undeserving father, while our mother had been slaughtered by his minions. Demons have a life span of thousands of years and father simply wasn’t ready to resolve his throne.
This story reminds me of a game I use to play… I thought to myself. Devil something? Now what was the name of that game? “We don’t have time for this, let’s go Jacob!” Janelle screamed rather suddenly. Though I wasn’t sure where she was leading me, one thing I was sure of, anywhere had to be better than here with the demons.
