When we updated our dining room a few weeks ago, I steamed off all of our wallpaper, had spackle texture sprayed on our walls, then I painted them a light tan color. Because the wallpaper we had on our walls had a large busy pattern, the curtains that covered our patio door were plain.
Removing the wallpaper made my room look very monochromatic, and I felt it needed a splash of color. When I was shopping at my local Bed Bath & Beyond store I found some of the popular grommet panel drapery panels, and luckily I had a sample of my sage green accent wall with me to see if the colors would work.
They had one style of grommet top panels that were striped, in all of my colors! The panels are ThermoSave Grommet Thermal Panels. The color I chose was Boca Stripe Spa, and these contained sage green, tan, off white, and dark brown. The sage green was a perfect match for my accent wall.
I love draperies, but don’t like installing the hardware that goes with them, and I like the modern yet casual look of the grommet top panels. When these are closed, they cause the curtains to look like draperies, and they open and close extremely fast and easily. The grommets are large, bronze colored, and there are eight grommets to each of the panels. Since the grommets are so large, the panels would look better with decorative curtain rods that match. However, when the panels are opened up, the grommets are not very visible at all.
When you close the ThermoSave Grommet Thermal Curtain Panels, they fold like an accordion, giving the illusion of a drapery. Because these folds are quite deep, you have to be sure to use curtain rods that extend out from your wall far enough to provide clearance.
When I purchased two packages of ThermoSave Grommet Thermal Curtain Panels, I didn’t realize that they were actually room darkening panels, and because of this they are thicker than I wanted. We do use room darkening curtains in our bedrooms, but I didn’t need them in my dining room. The panels have an infused white, plastic like backing that blocks the sun. Because of this, they are a little bit stiff and they don’t hang nicely like I had hoped.
The package says these will help you save on heating and air conditioning bills, as well as helping to reduce noise from outside of your home. These come in a variety of sizes, I purchased the 84 inch length, and they are 50 inches in width. The ThermoSave Grommet Thermal Curtain Panels are elegant looking, but I really wanted a drapery that was more fluid, so these are going back to the store. I am thankful that Bed Bath & Beyond has such a generous return policy. The panels retailed for $45.99 each.
