In his weekly address, President Obama is being the worst kind of president. But this should surprise no one, as he has been the worst kind of president since Day One.
I don’t care what political party you belong to or what kind of political ideology you believe in, the President of the United States should be beyond that. Not to say that past presidents have not done this. But it is no excuse. Obama is not the Democratic President. He is not the Liberal President. Or the Socialist one or any other one. He is THE President of THE United States. And I wish, no I DEMAND, he stop being the campaigning, megalomaniacal, narcissistic pony boy for the Democratic Party.
In his address, he spends his time whining about the Supreme Court, whom he has on more than one occasion lauded for their Constitutional decisions, and their decision on the campaign ad nonsense. He talks of “shadowy groups with harmless-sounding names,” and “foreign-controlled” corporations being behind ads. He blatantly calls a group he names as “Citizens for a Better Future” as being in reality “Corporations for Weaker Oversight.” This is the same quote he has used in dozens of speeches since the beginning of the year. Well, here is a little reality check for you. I searched for this group he claims is destroying the very fabric of our country’s democracy.
I found tons of references from news organizations and the White House with Obama using it in his speeches. The only real reference I found in all my web searching was for a group started on MySpace back in 2006. It only has one member, its founder, Paul LaPorte. This guy is a union pipefitter from Iowa. Or so his MySpace page claims. But even if this was some phony MySpace page thingie, the guy’s group only has one member. Himself. So where is the corporate conspiracy to defraud the American public?
So I really have a bunch of questions about this. First, if this is such a big problem with corporations fronting some phony organization to fund ads to get their candidate elected, why not name some of them? Real ones. Give us the example of what you say is happening instead of picking on some poor pipefitter from Iowa.
Secondly, what if corporations are funding ads to make things better for themselves? Isn’t that what most of these ads that are funding by people other than the candidates? I mean, isn’t the Democratic National Committee interested in what is important to them and funds campaigns to further their own interests? Because, hey, they certainly don’t represent my issues or interests. Isn’t this just another way of making corporations out to be the big bad boogie man, as he has made them out to be from the outset of his presidency? But aren’t corporations made up of people, too? Don’t they have a right to speak up for their beliefs? And if it weren’t for corporations, or big businesses in general, where would a majority of people earn their living?
And how about the American public. Aren’t they the ones who are ultimately responsible for casting their ballot come election time? With the media and all the special interest groups not giving the people the truth (or at least ALL of the truth), isn’t it incumbent on the people to find out the truth by looking at voting records and affiliations of the people they send to DC? And speaking of special interest groups trying to sway the vote, how come no mention of ACORN or the UAW, et all, in his speeches? How come its some shadowy corporate group or foreign interest? And in the case of foreign influence on elections, isn’t that a bit hypocritical considering all the influence the U.S. uses overseas on elections?
But in his speech this morning, President Obama is doing what I consider a disservice to the office and the people. He is being a Democrat first and a President last. He only tells half the story and is trying to lay the groundwork for his party in November. He is painting the Republicans as “the party of no” like he and Democrats have been doing for a long time.
Finally, Obama laughably states “This is an issue that goes to whether or not we will have a democracy that works for ordinary Americans – a government of, by, and for the people. Let’s show the cynics and the special interests that we still can.” When he has proven again and again that his Administration doesn’t care what the “ordinary American” thinks about his or her government and how it is running things. He has constantly shown his disregard for what the “ordinary American” wants from the government. He has lied, broken promises and done all he can by using his office to push forward a liberal agenda that has been frothing at the mouth for forty years to get instituted.
In response to this morning’s weekly address by the President of the United States, I only have one thing to say:
President Obama, get off the campaign trail and start acting like the President of the United States! The whole United States! Not as an agent of a particular party, or shadowy group (ACORN) or special interest (UAW) or foreign interest (pick any liberal or socialist country and insert here).
You can agree or disagree, but frankly I don’t care. I am so sick of this man thinking he has the right to run this country without regard to the people in it. So, whether you agree with me or disagree with me, just think for yourself. Don’t just blindly follow what some ad or some media outlet me or some phony baloney leader of the free world tells you. THINK FOR YOURSELF! But heck, this is just me, Thinking Out Loud.
Have a great day. And God bless America.
