Hubby was starting to tear down the pool in order to get it put up for the colder winter months. Both the kids went out and asked him if he needed help which he graciously accepted from them. When it comes to things like that, hubby is wonderful for patiently explaining how and why things work and get done. While we do not enforce chores and help, it has become an item of respect and both kids quite often ask to help in whatever activity we may be in if they see it is something we may like help in. This goes for washing dishes to general cleaning of the house, bringing in groceries, building projects or whatever. It really is a wonderful thing to have them help because they want to and enjoy helping out and becomes a time for connection and fun.
We have all been discussing and enjoying a new visitor to our yard the last couple of days. A raptor of some type has taken upon him self to make our yard his morning breakfast diner feasting on our chickens. While so amazing to be able to get within 10 feet of this magnificent animal, I do not appreciate feeding him all our chickens. So while we have been observing him and trying to identify his species, we captured the remaining free-ranged chickens and enclosed them in a pen for their safety.
Our adult daughter played a game of Battle Ship with our son; he loves strategy games and seems always up to the task of playing a good strategy game. We all watched a show on Discovery called Killer Ants which was just fascinating about a few species of very nasty deadly ants. Then my daughter and I watched Killer Jellyfish and 2 shows on deadly wild animals from Africa and Brazil. All these nature shows were extremely interesting even if a little on the bizarre side!
I went with hubby to turn in our scrap metal today and we did fairly well so came home and surprised everyone letting them know we would be going out to Pizza Hut for dinner. So my son showered while I worked on a few items I was requested to provide for an article I have coming out in an October issue of the Rethinking Everything Magazine. Then we all went out and had a very enjoyable dinner at Pizza Hut, it is not something we do often however when we do get the chance to go out to eat it is a much appreciated thing from all. On our way home our daughter asked if we could have a family night, which is what she calls our Co-sleeping in the living room watching movies together until we all get tired and go to sleep. Something we are starting to tend to do when a new Netflix movie shows up in the mail, which it did today.
With that in mind we stopped at the store on the way home to pick up items to make root beer floats for an evening snack. After getting home, our daughter went out to practice her driving skills by riding the riding lawn mower under her Daddy’s supervision, a favorite thing for her to like to do. Later she turned on some of her favorite music and spent some time dancing with her sister.
We all joined in and played a game of Life, however it is not the original version, the game of Life we have is a Pirates of the Caribbean one. It is quite different from the original version and just loads of fun to play with everyone fighting for the Black Pearl Ship that can be taken or stolen from you at any time! Any game involving money is a great tool for learning counting and money skills too but I am not going to tell my kids that! Simply put it is just something to do for fun! After the game we had our Root Beer Floats.
After our Root Beer Floats, we all made up our bed rolls on the living room floor and settled down to watch our Netflix movie. The movie we rented was called “Whale Rider” which is a wonderful coming of age tale spun about a Maori Tribe. This Maori Tribe must deal with a non traditional fact of a female becoming leader after her twin brother dies at birth along with their mother. I love movies that deal with new cultures and beliefs and this one was just awesome! After the movie we were not all that tired yet so we all watched Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader afterwards and then all went to sleep.
