Uh oh! You’ve received a last minute invitation to a Halloween party and you’re stuck without a costume. Never fear, these 5 quick and easy Halloween costumes can be quickly, and inexpensively, assembled from items in your current wardrobe and home.
YOUR FAVORITE SEASON
Pick a season, any season, and dress up like it. Do you love summer? Toss on a bikini top and grass skirt, add colorful makeup and a ponytail and you’re out the door in a flash. Guys can put on their swimtrunks and cut a surfboard from a large piece of cardboard. If winter is more your thing, don snowboots, a heavy coat and apply pale makeup. Get the idea? If you are really creative, you can dress in the colors associated with that season. One year I went as Autumn and dressed head to toe in shades of brown. My makeup was done in rich golds and coppers and I wore colorful leaves in my hair. Be prepared to explain what your costume is and get some odd looks. Some people just don’t appreciate creative genius at work.
YOUR FAVORITE DECADE
Similar to dressing as your favorite season, but you will choose a decade and dress up as it. Love the 60’s? Put on a pair of bell bottoms, fringed vest and platform shoes. Do you love the 90’s? Grab the flannel and Doc Martens. Raid the closet of your older family and friends for the best selection of props.
This idea is sure to make some laugh while others will walk away scratching their heads. Dress in old sweats or flannel pajamas. Safety pin a variety of small clothing items-socks, underwear, children’s clothing- randomly on your clothes. Add a couple of dryer sheets. Be sure to tease your hair out wildly to achieve the full “staticy” effect.
