Sunday morning used to be a time where a political junkie could sit back and get caught up on all of that weeks top political news stories. It was like going through a briefing without having to dedicate too much time in front of the television. Not anymore, now it’s like which person has the best lie or can spin their side better. It stopped being a place to go for a quick look at today’s top subjects and more like watching opposing lawyers in a court room. Law and Order cable news Sunday shows is not.
I speak of shows like “Meet the Press”; “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” just to name a few. These shows normally bring on the same people and ask generally the same questions every time. There are some who appear on these shows that seen enough can make their name a household word. I think that pretty soon these experts will have to hire someone to be their agent. Hollywood comes to Sunday talk shows. Cable News Sunday Shows need a make-over and to start being useful again instead of just a bunch of expected rhetoric from the same old expected journalist, commentators, pundits and spinners.
Here is my idea on how we can clean up this media. Owners, who finally see the light, can feel free to compensate me for this suggestion. To possibly increase viewership, have your shows provide solutions to problems instead of providing you with news of the confrontation variety. If guests know that they will be required to create solutions and be willing to argue and prove their suggestions, maybe then we could move this country forward. Then everyone will be doing their part to advance this nation instead of pushing for confrontations which will destroy this nation. Division is not the only culprit to this nation falling behind so many others and in many instances it is a good thing but when the complete focus is on what separates us instead of what we share with one another, where else can you go but down. If we wish to re-elevate our country, it must first begin with its people and in order to do this, those with access to cameras and 30 minute shows need to show how coming together to fix the issues are much better than standing apart on the issues.
