Tips for Parents on Keeping Your Home Germ Free During the Winter Months

by bogbit

When kids are in school, there is one thing that you can count on, and that’s plenty of germs floating all around. Keeping your home germ free during the winter months is one of the biggest challenges that parents tend to face. There is however several things that you can do in order to keep your home as germ free as humanly possible.

Start with the carpet

The first thing you will want to focus on is your carpet if you have one. There have been lots of reports, and articles on how many germs can be found in your carpet. If not cleaned properly this carpet can end up making you and your family sick for the majority of the winter. The first thing you will want to do is look at your vacuum cleaner. A good quality vacuum cleaner will help to ensure that you home is kept clean and germ free. Before vacuuming I like to spread around some baking soda on the carpet. This helps to freshen up the carpet a bit. When it comes to the vacuum itself you may want to focus on the ones that actually help kill germs like the Oreck Halo UV-C vacuum cleaner. Once the carpet is clean you can move on to the next step.

The kitchen and bathroom

The kitchen and the bathroom are two places where you will constantly find a lot of germs. In the kitchen you will want to focus on disinfecting the floors, tables, and the counters. If you don’t like chemicals you can focus on using natural products to disinfect. The bathroom should also be constantly be disinfected to keep germs down. I have found it to be a good idea to not use bar soap, but instead to use a hand sanitizing foam soap. This will help to keep the spread of germs down and you will also save money with the foam soap dispenser.

Your computer, desk, and remote

Since most homes have computers and the entire family enjoys using them it is a good idea to keep it sanitized. There are plenty of chemical free options when it comes to cleaning your computer, desk, and the remote. The last thing that many focus on when it comes to cleaning is the television remote. This is something that everyone in the house touches and shares, and is one of the biggest things that can spread germs.

Buying the right products

When it comes to choosing the right products there are some that are made to keep germs away. For example products that are made with microban, are made to keep bacteria away and kill germs. This type of material really keeps germs from growing. So the next time you go shopping for some supplies you may want to focus on those that will help with the germ fighting process.
