You can rarely go wrong when you give the gift of money. It’s perfect for men, women and children; it’s great for holidays, birthdays and graduations. The thing about giving money as a gift, though, is that you have to think of a creative way to do so. You can’t just walk up and hand some one cash. Well, you can, but, in most situations, that’s a little tacky. You can buy a greeting card and put the cash inside, like everyone else does, or you can do something a little more impressive. Use a toilet paper roll to make a money dispenser that is appropriate for anyone, anytime, and the recipient will be thrilled!
Take the bathroom tissue roll and easily turn it into a gift by first choosing paper or cloth with which to wrap the cardboard. Cut the piece so that it is just long enough to wrap around the roll with a little bit of overlap. Now cut the width of the cloth or paper to be a few inches longer than the roll itself. Position the toilet paper roll so that it’s lying on one long end of the cloth or paper. Roll the material around it and glue or tape in place. Now, tuck the excess material into the ends of the bathroom tissue roll.
You need a base for the cash dispenser so the perfect choice is a small, wooden shape. You can give the money dispenser a particular look by the type of base you choose. Craft stores are full of thick wooden pieces, thin pieces, and even shapes like stars, ovals, puppies, footballs and dozens of others. If you don’t have a wooden piece you can use Styrofoam or cardboard. Decorate the chosen base by painting it, covering it with cloth or paper, or even covering it with fake jewels. Glue the toilet paper roll to the middle of the base.
Pour some dry beans, rice, small pebbles, marbles or other heavy objects in the bottom of the bathroom tissue roll. Put in enough to fill up a couple inches in the bottom. Cut a cardboard disk to sit on top of the weights. This disk will help position the roll of money so it can be fed through a slit in the side of the roll.
Cut a slit down one side of the toilet paper roll. The slit should be about a half-inch longer than the width of a dollar bill. Decide on the dollar amounts of the bills and tape them together, end-to-end. You can choose to have the first bill out of the slit be a dollar or a twenty. The order in which the money is dispensed is up to you.
Roll the money up and drop it into the tube. Use an implement, like an ice pick, to push the edge of the first bill through the slit. Push it out just an inch or so. Glue a top onto the tube, like a painted Styrofoam ball, a small stuffed animal, or another object. The cash dispenser makes a fabulous gift – one any recipient will love!
