Tony Romo has broken his left clavicle in the Monday Night game. Romo may miss 4 weeks or more. Jon Kitna is now the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
It looked to me like the New York Giant injured Tony Romo on purpose. There is a maneuver defensive players use to injure quarterbacks when they pin an arm and drive them into the turf, often separating the quarterback’s shoulder. This is what Giant’s linebacker Michael Boley did to injure Tony Romo.
The Dallas Cowboys were off to a terrible start to the 2010 NFL season anyway but now they are doomed with the injury to Tony Romo. Just as whenTony Romo was injured before and Brad Johnson took over, the Cowboys are not prepared to go the season without him.
The trading deadline is past so the Dallas Cowboys can’t trade for a replacement for Tony Romo and there are really no street free agents that could help the Cowboys. Duante Culpepper and Jeff Garcia are playing in the United Football League but there is a reason they couldn’t make an NFL roster.
With Tony Romo out due to injury Dallas turns to Jon Kitna who is not a long term answer at quarterback. Kitna is a veteran quarterback with almost 30,000 yards passing and 152 touchdowns and 151 interceptions in his career. Kitna has some solid seasons with the Seahawks, Bengals and Lions but hasn’t been a starter for some time and never really flourished. Like Brad Johnson, Jon Kitna is a veteran coach on the sidelines type of quarterback. Stephen McGee a 2nd year player out of Texas A&M is the 3rd quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
With Tony Romo out the Dallas Cowboys will have to become more of a running team which they needed to do anyway. I always liked Jon Kitna and he has the best offense around him that he has ever played with but I don’t see him replacing Tony Romo for the long term.
After the Tony Romo injury against the Giants I expect Stephen McGee to get some playing time unless Kitna does a very good job. This team will now not make the playoffs and I think Dallas should see what they have in McGee.
