With winter coming on strong, and icy winds the way of the day, drivers need to restock their car with winter accessories. We are not talking about general, automobile emergency, items such as flashlights, screwdrivers, and cell phones. Pack these year-round, and expect to need them from time to time.
This article focuses on specialty items that lend themselves uniquely to winter. Though not ordered by any specific value of importance, here is a list of 10 essential winter accessories for your car:
Insulated driving gloves. In the chill of winter, night or day, unless your automobile resides in a heated garage, the steering wheel can be a cold object to embrace. Insulated gloves also prevent frostbite while scrapping ice off the windows.
Lightweight and oversized rain jacket. Umbrellas keep rain, snow, and sleet away from the head, but a rain jacket offers full body protection. Rain jackets also serve as an additional layer of clothing.
10″ Bear Claw Ice Scraper or equivalent. Defrosters are for keeping windows clear. Heavy-duty ice scrappers are for clearing the initial overload. Bear Claw is cheap.
Winter Warrior Windshield Cover, or similar product. In lieu of applying ice-away products, a front windshield cover provides the quick prevention of ice buildup. These water-resistant Nylon products are easy to install, light weight, and theft resistant.
Two inexpensive, medium-weight, blankets. Automobile breakdowns sometimes happen in the wee hours of the morning, when the cold is nearest to unbearable. Help can be slow in coming. Having a blanket on hand can ease the chill of a long wait. Give the second blanket to homeless person.
Two dollar, throwaway, Nylon paintbrush. Sometimes you open the doors without sweeping the snow of the top of the car. When it comes to brushing snow off the seats, these cheap brushes perform as well or better than specialty products.
A cotton scarf. Though modern men may object to the look, few clothing accessories can reduce the bite of winter air like a neck scarf.
Waterproof Galoshes in the trunk. Though waterproof, Rockport Evander business shoes will not handle a sustained walk through icy, runoff waters. Be prepared for the unexpected.
Waterproof seat cushions. This will shield cloth seats from the wet weather, and it will protect the driver from the cold that accumulated in leather seats.
Radiator flush, new thermostat, and a fresh filling of Preston antifreeze. Though not so much an accessory, this is a sometimes-overlooked component of winter auto care.
