The emerging trend of Archenemies in televisions series has inspired a look at the best TV rivals in recent years. Here is a list of the top 10 Archenemies to be featured in a television series.
1. Sherlock Holmes vs. Moriarty,Sherlock
The BBC series featured these rivals as they continued a battle of wits in present day London. They were the quintessential rivals of the novel world and they continued their standing in the revamped TV series.
2. Boyd Crowder vs. Raylan Givens,Justified
They’re exactly what Archenemies should be, best friends. Justified features a western classic standoff with a cowboy U.S. Marshal (Raylan) defending against the unlawful actions of an evangelical white supremacist (sort of) with a rocket launcher (Boyd), who happens to be his childhood friend.
3. Sideshow Bob vs. Bart Simpson,The Simpsons
Cartoon’s have villains, too. They are possibly the longest running enemies in cartoon history. Sideshow Bob has been foiled by Bart Simpson for over a decade, be it framing or murder attempts, and has become a mainstay for the series.
4. Peter vs. Giant Chicken,Family Guy
Their battles were epic, extremely bloody, and made no sense what so ever, but that’s how much they hate each other. They’ll fight to death over a bad coupon, but they somehow live to fight another day, for no reason.
5. Chuck Bartowski vs. Daniel Shaw,Chuck
The unlikely spy Chuck hasn’t had a main foil for most of the series, but luckily Daniel Shaw (the spy turned Ring operative endowed with the same superspy intersect as Chuck) was brought in to fill the void. Besides that, he is also played by the man formerly known as Superman from Superman Returns.
6. Dexter vs. Doakes,Dexter
For Dexter, his worst opponent was never one of the murderers he killed at the end of every season, but really officer Doakes. He is the only one to ever come close to taking down the vigilante serial killer. Verbal abuse, physical confrontations, framings, they did it all. Why won’t a cop let a serial killer kill people?
7. Clark Kent vs. Lex Luthor, Smallville
“A hatred for each other that burns like a thousand suns.”
As the only live action comic book enemies on television, they have to make the list. Superman’s greatest foe is a man who is smarter than him, but that’s not saying much because Superman is pretty dense.
8. Jack Bauer vs. Enemies of America,24
No greater foe exists…for the enemies of America.
9. Peter Petrelli vs. Sylar, Heroes (1st season)
In the first season of Heroes, they were classic rivals in the making. Two guys, same powers, one good, one evil, one absorbed powers, one ate brains.
10. Cartman vs. Kyle,South Park
South Park’s Cartman is one of the most villainous characters in TV history: genocidal, feeds parents to their children, hates gingers and hippies and especially his best friend/Archenemy who always ruins his diabolical plans, Kyle.
