The top five Facebook games based on daily active users are::
FarmVille with 17,163,896

Texas HoldEm Poker with 6,066,935
Cafe World with 4,713,823
Bejeweled Blitz with 4,544,571
The first four games are produced by game developer Zynga dot com. The last is from PopCap Games.
The statistics for Facebook games change when looking at Monthly Daily Usage. Mafia Wars with 21,664,530 monthly active users replaces Bejeweled Blitz which has 4,544,571 monthly active users. Bejeweled Blitz drops to tenth place under Treasure Isle, MndJolt Games, Happy Aquarium and Pet Society.
Does popularity based on number of people playing the games mean they are the best games to play on Facebook? People who play those top five Facebook games would likely answer: yes. I would say: no. I have personal experience playing FarmVille, Cafe World, Mafia Wars, Bejeweled Blitz and MindJolt Games. Many of my Facebook friends play or have played all of the top five games. My opinion is based on their complaints and my own experience.
Reasons Popular Games Are Not The Best Games To Play
The reasons popular games are not the best games to play can be found by answering the following questions.
How quickly does a Facebook game load?
Are there continuous problems with the game not loading at all?
How often does downtime affect game play?
Do developers announce routine maintenance downtime several days prior to the game going offline?
When a problem occurs with the game, such as server issues, do the developers keep players informed as to why the game is unavailable and what is being done to resolve issue?
How quickly and effectively does Customer Service solve Support ticket problems?
How many and how often does a game use pop-ups?
Do the requirements for regular game play involve dependency upon neighbor help or increasing the number of friends playing the game?
How much lag time is there when playing the game?
Does the game up the ante, making it difficult to achieve goals?
Rating the answers to those questions on a scale of one to five, with one being “lousy” and five being “awesome”, FarmVille gets an overall rating of one. Cafe World and Treasure Isle are right down there with FarmVille. Mafia Wars is slightly better, perhaps a three star rating. I do not have experience with Bejeweled Blitz customer service, but would give them a five rating on other aspects of the game.
I have not tried every game Facebook has to offer. Based on games I have sampled, Fairyland, Car Town and Gourmet Ranch are the best games to play on Facebook using my criteria as to what makes a game the best to play. They score 5, 4.5 and 4 respectively when answering the above posed questions. Fairyland gets extra props for using profits to adopt rainforest acres. Car Town, also gets an extra star for changing car prices from game cash to game coins at the bequest of players who do not choose to spend real cash to buy game cash.
Despite game problems, seventeen million people may find the top five games are the best games to play on Facebook. I wonder why.
