If you grew up during the 1990’s, then you probably remember many of the now-classic commercials on TV during that time. Here are my personal top 5 favorite or memorable commercials.
1. Talk Boy
“Hi Kids, we’re home early!” is the classic line from this staple 90’s commercial. Perfect for the younger sibling or anyone looking to play pranks on their family, the Talk Boy (and later, Talk Girl and Talk Boy Pen) were the perfect device to pull off household hijinks.
The Gap created some of the most iconic commercials from the 90s. Whether it was khaki-clad swing dancers or Gen-Xers apathetically singing, The Gap’s commercials were extremely well-known and ubiquitous during the decade. Fun Fact: Try and spot now-famous Rashida Jones at the very end of the “Mellow Yellow” spot.
3. Charms Blow Pops
Featuring some awesome 90’s fashion, this commercial for Charms Blow Pops aired for years during children’s programming. It was still airing as recent as two years ago, proving that this commercial stood the test of time.
4. Taco Bell
Fast-food chain Taco Bell found a beloved mascot in Gidget, the “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” dog. Airing from 1997-2000, there were numerous ads featuring the chihuahua in search of it’s Taco Bell meal. Gidget died in 2009 after suffering a stroke, but Taco Bell commercials have never been the same, or as good, without her.
Though I have yet to meet anyone who actually played this game, the majority of people who were kids during the 1990’s can still sing the Crossfire jingle. The combination of a dystopian marble and top battle with the epic rock singing vocals make this the most memorable commercial from the 90s.
