5. Eddie Jones: 1,152 assists
Former defensive great Eddie Jones ranks fifth on the list of Miami Heat all-time assist leaders. Jones spent more time with Miami than with any other team, totaling 387 out of his 954 NBA games. The three-time All-Star and three-time All-Defensive guard averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game with the Heat. His top assist season in Miami was 3.7 per game in 2002-03 and his career-high was 4.2 with the Hornets in 1999-00.
4. Sherman Douglas: 1,262 assists
Sherman Douglas manned the point in Miami’s early seasons and he remains fourth on the Heat’s all-time assist leaders list. Douglas was drafted by the Heat entering their second season, averaging 7.6 assists as a rookie. He followed it with his career year which included 18.5 points, 8.5 assists, and 1.7 steals in 1990-91. Douglas played only 159 games with the Heat and by his retirement in 2001, he reached 4,536 total assists.
3. Bimbo Coles: 1,961 assists
Longtime point guard Bimbo Coles ranks third on the list of Miami Heat all-time assist leaders. Coles was a part-time starter for the Heat from 1990 to 1996 and he returned briefly for 22 games at the end of his career. He averaged 8.7 points and 4.2 assists per game for the duration of his tenure in Miami. For his career as a whole, he totaled 3,313 assists with the Heat, Warriors, Hawks, Cavs, and Celtics.
2. Tim Hardaway: 2,867 assists
Five-time All-Star point guard Tim Hardaway is second on the Miami Heat’s all-time assist leaders list. Hardaway was one of the top distributors in basketball throughout his career, finishing in the top ten in assists per game eight times; his 8.2 career assist average is 11th best in NBA history. From 1996 to 2001, he averaged 17.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game for the Heat. Hardaway is also second on the Warriors’ all-time assists leader board.
1. Dwyane Wade: 3,152 assists*
The Miami Heat’s all-time assist leader is superstar guard Dwyane Wade. One of the top NBA players in every facet of the game, Wade has averaged more than six assists per game for each of the last six seasons. He has twice reached his career-high of 7.5 per game, first in 2006-07 and again in 2008-09 when he led the league in scoring. In his eighth season with the Heat, the six-time All-Star has career averages of 25.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He is the Heat’s all-time leading scorer with 12,136 points and he tops the team’s career steals list with 874.
