These are the top 10 Indie bands of 2008. Indie music consists of a folky, alternative, Southern rock, and pop music. Indie music brings folk music into the rock industry. It is brought to us in many variations to delight many people who love this different type of music. Check out the best Indie bands of 2008.

1. Born Ruffians-Born Ruffians is a Canada based Indie rock band playing traditional Indie Pop. If you like “Talking Heads” you will love “Born Ruffians”. If you love great Indie music, this band will make your ears perk up. Their 2008 CD was called “Red, Yellow and Blue”. Pick a copy of this Indie band’s music up at your local music store and see what you think.

2. Beach House-Beach House came out with “Devotion” in 2008 and rocked the Indie world. The CD was included in “Pitchfork’s” best albums of 2008 list. The band gets its influences from “Grizzly Bear”, Neil Young and Chris Bell.

3. Black Keys-Black Keys is an Indie band from Akron, OH. The band formed in 2001. Their release in 2008, “Attack and Release” debuted at number fourteen on the billboard top 200. The group received a ton of attention from the “Attack and Release” album. Songs from the album were used in “Grand Theft Auto IV” and “Nascar 09” video games. “So He Won’t Break” from the album was featured on an episode of “One Tree Hill”.

4. Bon Iver-Bon Iver is an Indie band formed by Indie/folk singer Justin Vernon in 2007. The group put together “For Emma, Forever ago in a remote cabin in Wyoming in four months. The Album was released in February of 2008 and has gained critical acclaim. The album was ranked twenty-nine as “Rolling Stones” top fifty albums of 2008. Bon Iver took the world by storm in 2008 and became one of the best Indie bands in the US and Europe.

5. Bonnie “Prince Billy”-Bonnie “Prince Billy” is a stage name for the folk/country singer Will Oldham. Will Oldham’s alternative folk (Indie) country music continued to impress the music world with his “Lie Down in the Light” release in 2008.

6. The Breeders-The Breeders are an alternative (Indie) rock band formed in 1998 by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Tonya Donnelly of Throwing Muses. The band released their fourth album “Mountain Battles” in 2008. The album is full of rich music sung by Kim Deal and excellent to the point lyrics.

7. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds-Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are an Australian alternative (Indie) rock band. The band released their fourteenth album in 2008. The album was called “Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!.” The album told about the resurrection of Lazarus from the grave by Jesus. Nick Cave and the Bad seeds is very interesting music. The group tells stories through this drunken lyrical masterpiece.

8. Death Vessel-Death Vessel is a Neo-traditional fold (Indie) band from Rhode Island. John Thibodeau is the leader and founder of the band. The band’s album “Nothing is Precious Enough for Us” was released in 2008. The album is a very strange collection of beautiful songs. This second album for the group made them a great success in Indie music in 2008.

9. The Dodos-The Dodos are an American Indie rock band. The band was started in 2005 and released their second album “Visitor” was greeted with critical acclaim. Their music on the album is dynamic and their live show is explosive. The Dodos is one of the great Indie bands of 2008.

10. Drive-By Truckers-Drive-By Truckers is an alternative country (Indie)/Southern rock group based in Athens, Georgia. The group is noteworthy for their three guitars or “Axe attack”. The group’s 2008 release “Brighter than Creation’s Dark”. The album consists of nineteen well written (dark wit) songs. The album peeked at number 37 on the Billboard top 200 making Drive-By Truckers one of the best Indie bands of 2008.
