I am the mom to three children under the age of four years old. Including one who barely is a month old. Since I have been pregnant for most of the last five years, my wardrobe is less than fashionable! Most of my clothes are either worn out, stretched out or just plain out of style. When going through my wardrobe however, I think I have a good idea of what I don’t want to be looking like when I am out with the kids in the coming year.
A lot of my clothing is over sized or stretched out. Some how despite having had three kids, I am a smaller size than before I got pregnant for the first time so in some cases my items are two sizes too big or more. I also had a habit pre-pregnancy of buying clothing that was slightly larger than my size. After three kids I have become pretty comfortable with who I am and what my body looks like. In 2011 I will be saying good-bye to the over-sized t-shirts and tops and hello to more fitted, correctly sized choices.
The Mom Uniform be GONE!
I have to admit that despite saying I would never be “that mom” I have become the mom that wears sweats, t-shirts and flip flops. Looking at my closet I see a lot of sweats that are not even close to being in-fashion. With a new work out plan in place, I will be looking for some fashionable yoga and running wear like those that I see some of my favorite mom celebs wearing. These clothes won’t be my staples for dress but I think that this will make walks around the neighborhood get a boost. Since if you look good you often feel good (and maybe more motivated to take that extra lap around the block).
Creating “Outfits” Not Just Having Clothes
One of the biggest traps I have fallen into is that I have few “staples” (besides my little black dress of course) and have a number of separates that really don’t go together. When shopping this 2011 I really want to look for separates that can easily be blended into “looks” or outfits that can be mixed and matched. This will give me more variety. I like pairing different textures together and mixing and matching great tops and jackets with a pair of nice jeans. Finding tops, jackets and accessories that can be dressed up or dressed down will help me get more bang for my buck and also keep me feeling a little more fashionable and a little less frumpy. One of my frustrations has always been buying a piece of clothing, only to have it be out of style two weeks later. I want to find items that are not just fleeting trends but pieces that I can wear for a year or so.
The final thing I will be doing is making sure I give myself time to actually get ready in the morning so that when I do go out, I can be as fresh and “put together” as I can be. No hair thrown in a ponytail and go. I want to have at least a few minutes to actually achieve a hair style and apply some light make-up so that I can go out feeling confident and human when I venture out with the family!
