Fall is here and that can only mean one thing – Bowling! Yep, this is the time of year when heading to the pool or lake is no longer an option and you’ve already seen every movie released over the summer. So what are you to do?
The answer is…Bowling! In Metro Atlanta we have plenty of great Bowling Centers. I have two kids (well, three if you count my husband), a tight budget and a hectic schedule. When we have an opportunity for a family night, we’re looking for more then just dinner and a movie. We really look for activities that bring us closer as a family and nothing says family like a good bowling brawl. Here are some personal favorites. Let the trash talking commence!
Stars and Strikes is a great place to spend some family time! From Twilight and Boutique Bowling to Lazer Tag and Bumper Cars, Stars and Strikes has something for everyone. In addition to the great bowling, they also have a fantastic arcade, bumper cars and lazer tag. The Coach’s Corner Cafe has the regular sports bar menu. We usually order the pizza, which can be delivered at the lane or eaten in the restaurant, and is always fresh, hot and tasty. They have affordable family, group and birthday packages as well as daily specials! Depending on which day you’re there, you can get bowling for a buck or half price arcade games. Stars and Strikes really knows how to give you the most bang for your buck! Located in Cumming, Dallas, Dacula and opening soon in Holly Springs! Open Mon.- Thurs. 10am – Midnight, Fri. 10am – 2am., Sat. 9am – 2am, and Sun. 9am – Midnight. Do yourself a favor and visit Stars and Strikes! www.starsandstrikes.com.
Red Carpet Lanes Entertainment Complex is exactly that. An Entertainment Complex! With 26 lanes of bowling, 6 billiard tables (all regulation size), karaoke suites, a full bar and lounge with 2 dance floors, this place really does have it all! If that weren’t enough, they also claim to have the largest standing Poker Room in Atlanta. Once we overcame the awe of a “bowling alley” having a 30ft. arched ceiling in the atrium, we were able to get down to the business of bowling. While pricier than Stars and Strikes, I have to admit that we had a blast. We went around 3pm and it was great but because of the “club” atmosphere, I wouldn’t recommend bringing your kids too late in the evening. Games start at $3.50 each and shoe rental is $2.25 (kids) and $3.95 (adults). Prices are higher on the weekends. I must point out that they had a great looking menu. Once again, we went for the pizza and it didn’t disappoint. I will give you two words on the dessert menu…Panama Heart Attack. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Red Carpet offers several different birthday packages for kids, teens and adults. Be aware that they have an Upscale Casual Afterhours Dress Code though no one could tell me when afterhours began I assume it would be around 9pm. Located at 4500 Satellite Blvd. Duluth, Ga. 30096. www.redcarpetbowl.com.
Last, but not least, is 300. Specifically 300 Atlanta. They have 9 locations nationwide and I’m sure Atlanta is the best! 300 is billed as “bowling – with a twist”. As with the earlier mentioned bowling centers, 300 also has state of the art lanes. The twist is that they have floor to ceiling video screens and have worked successfully to give you a comfortable, local hangout feel. They offer birthday packages/events for kids and adults with the added feature of custom made cakes. For this outing we decided to taste test some of their appetizers. The Thai Chili wings were crispy and flavorful, not too spicy. I highly recommend the Trio of Fries, kettle chips, seasoned sweet potato fries and “regular” fries all served with chipotle sauce, ketchup and a spicy bleu cheese sauce that will rock your world! Bowling rates start at $5.25/game and increase steadily to $8.25/game. Shoe rental is $5 for every age. At those prices, 300 has the dubious distinction of being the most expensive bowling center we visited, but don’t let that stop you from checking them out. This place has a very cool vibe and is worth a look. 300 is located at 2175 Savoy Dr. Atlanta, Ga. 30341. www.threehundred.com.
