After missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season, the Toronto Raptors lost in the offseason as well. First, Chris Bosh, their franchise player, agreed to a sign-and trade with the Miami Heat. Second, they were forced to trade Hedo Turkoglu, their prized free agent acquisition of the prior summer, to the Phoenix Suns because he was unhappy with the organization.
With the departures of Bosh and Turkoglu, the Raptors lost their scoring leader, rebounding leader, steals leader, and second-leading shot blocker.
In return, Toronto received two future first-round draft picks, a trade exception, Leandro Barbosa, and Dwayne Jones. None of these pieces will provide the Raptors immediate help. General Manager Bryan Colangelo might be able to turn these pieces into a meaningful contributor sometime in the future.
However, before they can get to the future the Toronto Raptors and their fans have to get through this season.
