What a fun review we were chosen for and now I get to share my thoughts about this company with you, my readers.
If you are unfamiliar with KB Teachers as I was, then here is a bit of background on this company.
Christophe Popper started an online website called Knowledge Bears back in 1998 and since then KB Teachers has been added to the online world. So essentially Mr. Popper has been providing educational tools to consumers for over 10 years.
After browsing through the KB Teachers website, I found that the layout was very straight forward. There is no search feature as the company believes a well laid out site should only have the consumer click three times, before they find the product desired.
KB Teachers offers many worksheets and activities covering the basic subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, social studies, but also offers a monthly or seasonal theme. Last month my children were able to enjoy some October themed worksheets and activities, where as this month the theme is geared towards Thanksgiving.
My boys who are 11 and 14 really enjoyed the Webquests. Webquests are exactly what they sound like, a quest for information around the web. I have heard of these before but worried about them in the past because who knows what could come across the screen. However, with these webquests being designed by a reputable company, I felt that they must have some wonderful educational opportunities contained within them. I sat with them through the first couple of webquests they did but after that I got them geared up with their worksheets and let them work through them together. They love it and learn so much.
There are other wonderful tools available from KB Teachers, such as their math worksheet generators. Which really helps to keep from repeating the same worksheets over and over. However with that being said, I was disappointed with the place value worksheets, the riddle worksheets, and the classic math section in general. There was not much variety at all. My daughter is working on place value at this point and we used up both worksheets in the same day, so I did have to find other supplements elsewhere for that.
They have a wonderful science and biology section to browse through. Some of the topics covered in these two sections are Geology, Astronomy, Weather, nutrition, Human Anatomy, Marine Biology, Plants and Microbiology. For those of you looking for a Christian Worldview on these Science worksheets will not find that here. The company also doesn’t encourage Evolution either. KB Teachers really tries to remain neutral on both views and strives to provide information rather than be on one side or the other.
My daughter liked the cursive worksheets that KB Teachers has. They provide a worksheet for every letter of the alphabet. They have one set of worksheets for the lowercase letters and another set of worksheets for the uppercase letters. The worksheets are also divided into categories such as, round letters, loopy letters, and so on. They also have Alphabet pages for younger students and even a few choice grammar worksheets available.
For older students the Social Studies section is a great place to find worksheets relating to Ancient Civilizations, World Countries, World War One, Early American History, Medieval Europe, Post War Europe, The Cold War, Global History and China.
Some other great features of this website is the dinosaur activity pages. Kids are fascinated with dinosaurs and while my children are over that phase this would have been a great resource during those days.
They also have a great selection of clipart that you can use on any non-commercial application. I am seeing a great many uses for the clipart in my families future.
If you love to teach arts and crafts, need ideas or just have a child really into the arts, KB Teachers has a section for that also. We found several projects that we are planning to take on after the holidays.
Overall, we loved this website. The website adds variety to a gloomy or boring workload for children. The site is better used by someone who has children 14 or younger. The site has been a wonderful blessing for my daughter in the way of math. We would have liked to have utilized the classic math section more but like I said the variety was just not there in that section.
The website is due to undergo a major over haul, if you will for the beginning of the year. Maybe, Just maybe they will address some of these issues but for now it is what it is.
KB Teachers is a wonderful value at $29.00 per year or get a two year subscription for $49.00. That is a savings of $9.00.
