Brief History of Harry and David
According to the company’s website, “Harry and David” is part of the Rosenberg family legacy, which started with the establishment of the “Hotel Sorrento.”
Samuel Rosenberg later forsook the Washington based “Hotel Sorrento” in lui of pursuing agricultural concerns.
Afterward, the family specialized in high quality, great tasting pears and began direct marketing them by mail as early as 1934.
From there the business took off and the Rosenberg family expanded their company’s product offerings to include a variety of signature, gourmet items.
Fans of “Harry and David” are no doubt familiar with the company’s catalogs, stores and special events. What they may not be aware of however, is that the company offers an exclusive behind the scenes look at how the company’s signature items are made.
Brief Description of the Factory Tour
Factory tours are given at the company’s Medford, Oregon location. The tours include a question and answer session where die-hard “Harry and David” fans learn all they desire about the company’s various product lines from a knowledgeable tour guide.
The guided tour starts and ends at the same location; the “Harry and David Country Village” located on Center Drive.
Hours of Operation and Admission
As of 2010 guided tours of the “Harry and David” kitchens are given year round, Monday through Friday at 9:15 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 1:45 pm.
Advance reservations are required and can be made by e-mail or by telephone.
Admission to the guided kitchen tour is $5 per adult. The cost of admission is redeemable towards a $40 purchase at the “Harry and David Country Village” store on the day of the tour only.
