The fall harvest is upon us, and gardens will be yielding an abundance of delicious fruits and vegetables for autumn consumption. One of the top fruit crops will be apples, one of the easiest fruits to turn into a scrumptious dessert. Whether a simple apple crisp or a dip for a seasonal party, these apple recipes are some of my favorites for the fall harvest.
Apple Crisp – a simple version of a timeless classic using just six ingredients, from allrecipes.com.
4 cups sliced apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup water
1 cup white sugar
½ cup butter
¾ cup all-purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350-degrees F, and grease an 8″x8″ baking dish. Put apples in dish and sprinkle with cinnamon. Pour water over the apples and cinnamon.
In another bowl, cream together the sugar and butter, then blend in flour. Spread mixture over apples. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until crust is golden brown.
The best apples to use for baking include McIntosh, Granny Smith, Jonathan, and Rome Beauty.
Caramel Apple Dip – a party-pleasing sweet and crunchy dip that can be made festive by using red and green apples.
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 tub T Marzetti Caramel Apple Dip
Heath Bar Toffee Bits (located in store near the chocolate chips)
6 apples, sliced
Mix cream cheese and one heaping tablespoon of caramel, then spread onto a platter. Top mixture with remaining caramel dip, then toffee bits. Serve with apple slices.
If you’ll be slicing the apples ahead of time for a party, spray the slices with lemon juice so they won’t turn brown.
