The main reason I took my three year old to Tyler Arboretum was for their annual summer exhibit. For 2010, they had a special exhibit called Nature’s Enchantment. The exhibit runs through the end of October 2010. The exhibit was a whole path for children and their parents to follow with various stops. The stops included huts, tree houses and special places to play. My daughter loved climbing up the wooden tree structures. She adored all of the neat gnomes, fairies and wizards. The giant corn structures and the talking troll bridge were very memorable and she has talked about them for weeks now. As a parent, I found such beauty in the immaculately kept grounds and my daughter was more than entertained. It was a great place to enjoy the beauty of nature and some quiet.
In addition to the special exhibit, Tyler offers so much more! They have a butterfly exhibit where you can walk through special area where butterflies fly among you. The have pieces of fresh fruit sitting out and it is amazing to see the butterflies land on the sweet watermelon slices.
We also loved the Meadow Maze. It’s a meadow that has a unique maze cut through it. It was beautiful and fun to walkthrough. It’s also very neat how they have blended it to fit in the natural surroundings.
Another enjoyable area of the Arboretum was the pond. The pond offered a little wooden deck area to observe the turtles, frogs and other creatures. In the ten minutes we spent in this area, we saw a whole host of creatures. We also enjoyed the many walking nature trails that one could follow. They even had hikes that you could take, if you felt like going on more of an adventure.
Tyler Arboretum was a beautiful place to spend a summer day with my daughter. If you are looking to enjoy the beauty of nature, or entertain your children, I highly recommend you check it out!
