The UFC will be giving us another treat on September 15, 2010. UFC Fight Night 22 will be airing on Spike TV right before the Ultimate Fighter 12. The UFC will give us the four main fights as a treat before their Ultimate Fighter series. UFC Fight Night 22 will be live at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin Texas. UFC Fight Night 22 will have a total of ten bouts of which the main four bouts will be seen live on Spike TV.
1. Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares– Nate Marquardt is ranked as the number 4 middleweight in MMA fighting. Rousimar Palhares is not ranked and I honestly have not heard of the fighter. Rousimar beat Jeremy Horn at UFC 93. Interesting he was suspended for ninety-days after UFC (in his submission win over Tomasz Drwal) because he refused to let go of the submission hold. Rousimar sounds like a mean and tough character. Nate Marquardt has fought many of the top Middleweight fighters in the UFC. He had a championship fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 73 where he lost by punches. Nate Marquardt is one of the toughest Middleweight fighters in the UFC. He has a great punch and is not too bad on the ground. He lost his last fight to Chael Sonnen, a close decision loss. The fighters received fight of the night honors for their great fight against each other. Nate Marquardt should win this fight over Rousimar Palhares and get himself back on the right track. However, you never know in the UFC.
2. Efrain Escudero vs. Matt Wiman– Efrain Escudero is the lightweight winner of the Ultimate Fighter 8. He was set to fight tough Charles Oliveira, but is now fighting Matt Wiman. Matt Wiman is no slouch in the UFC. Wiman is a UFC fighter who will fight anybody at any time. He will fight this fight against Escudero coming off wins against Matt Danzig and Shane Nelson. I would give Wiman the edge in this fight only because he has already fought so many UFC fighters in his career. This should be a good/ fun matchup to watch. Both fighters should be busy and give the fans the action they want to see.
3. Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau-Jim Miller is a tough UFC fighter. His only two losses have come against UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and tough UFC fighter Gray Maynard. Jim Miller is great with submissions and is not too bad on his feet. His Guillotine choke is tough. Gleison Tibau is a Brazilian Black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. This fight could go either way. You have two UFC fighters who are great with submissions, so it will probably be a stand up war. I believe Jim Miller may win this fight on his feet. Don’t be surprised if Gleison Tibau surprises all of us.
4. Ross Pearson vs. Cole Miller– Ross Pearson is tougher than he looks. He surprised many of us when he won the Ultimate Fighter 9 Lightweights. I was surprised and still am. He is tough, but he goes up against experienced Cole Miller. This fight should test Ross Pearson. Cole Miller has been in the ring with some tough experienced UFC fighters. I believe Ross may pull this one out, but I have been surprised before. If he beats Cole Miller, Ross Pearson will go on to bigger and better things.
Preliminaries we won’t see on television.
Yves Edwards vs. John Gunderson
Jared Hamman vs. Kyle Kingsbury
Dave Branch vs. Tomasz Drwal
Rich Attonito vs. Rafael Natal
David Mitchell vs. Anthony Waldburger
Brian Foster vs. Forrest Petz
UFC Fight Night 22 should be a nice treat for UFC fans. This event will wet your appetites and get you ready for The Ultimate Fighter 12-Team Koscheck vs. Team St-Pierre. Enjoy the fights and stayed tuned for any breaking news from the MMA world. Fights are always subject to change when a fighter is injured.
