Shoe horns have been around for years, my mother used to have a small one, and shoe stores often use shoe horns to easily put shoes on your feet and take them off. I had never seen a long shoe horn until I joined my local Curves for Women gym last winter.
I liked their long shoe horn so much that I started looking for one. What I found were the Ultra Long Steel Shoe Horns, which are made in Sweden. This is not only a super tool for assisting you in putting on your shoes, but it is also a conversation piece!
The Ultra Long Steel Shoe Horn is made of a durable and long lasting premium steel, and it measures a generous 31 inches in length. It comes in three colors, stainless steel, chrome, or black. It is also available in plastic, but due to the length I question how long the plastic version would last without cracking or breaking, so I feel it is worth the extra few dollars to buy the steel version.
The Ultra Long Steel Shoe Horn looks like other standard sized shoe horns, but it simply has a longer handle. This great feature allows you to put your shoes on while you are sitting or even standing. Of course using it while standing greatly depends on how tall you are, I am only 5′ 1″ tall, so I can use it in this manner. However, I use it while sitting most of the time.
Due to the added length, some folks may find the Ultra Long Steel Shoe Horn harder to store, but it comes with a hole near the top, near the curved portion where you put your fingers to pull the product upward to get the shoes on. You can easily hang it up in your entry way, or where ever you keep your shoes.
I highly recommend this handy tool for people who are older, or those who have a bad back and have trouble bending over. Not only does it help maintain a healthy back, but it also helps keep your shoes in better shape by preventing the backs from being crushed down.
I care for seven school aged children, and almost all of them have gotten into the habit of removing their shoes without undoing the laces, which makes them harder to put back on when the time comes. A tool like this is fun for them to use (can you picture them fighting over it?), and it helps them get their shoes on faster so we can all get out the door on time.
The Ultra Long Steel Shoe Horn is a great tool to have around the home, and I am so glad that I found it! The black version, which is steel coated with black paint, is the cheapest, retailing for $12.95. The chrome is next, priced at $14.95, and the most expensive version is their stainless steel, which costs $22.95.
