Over this last weekend residents in Birmingham were alarmed and shocked to learn that an arm robbery attempt occurred at the Park Street parking structure on Park street. Birmingham one of Metro-Detroit’s safest communities rarely experiences armed holdups, especially during a busy Saturday night.
As the economic hardships continue to leave many young adults unemployed, criminal activity may become a common occurrence in Metro-Detroit’s wealthier communities. Earlier this summer the first gunpoint hold-up in thirty years occurred in Birmingham, when two armed gunman attempted to rob a Birmingham man at the door of his residence near Southfield and Maple.
The most recent event that occurred at the Park Street parking structure, when two armed gunmen attempted to rob a group of four teenagers, have left citizens in Birmingham a bit uneasy in the usually safe and pleasant city. Birmingham residents are taking a more vigilant stance, Sarah Marshall, a 15 year Birmingham resident said she will be going about her daily business as normal but will be more aware of who is around her and will be keeping an eye for anything unusual.
