Tired of the ice cream mess that happens every year at your child’s birthday party? A little bored with the same old party, year after year? Do something a little bit different this time! Use those ordinary ice cream cones to make something unique and tasty to give the kids. You’ll have less mess and the kids will love the tasty treats.
An ice cream cone can hold many different things. Whether you purchase the type that have a flat bottom, or the sugar cones with the pointed tip, the cones have openings large enough to hold many different types of foods. Of course, it’s a party, so you’ll want to choose party-type foods for filling the cups. The pointed cones hold a little less than the flat-bottom cones so you might want to keep that in mind when planning how many treats to buy for filling the cones.
Making layers in the cups is fun. There are so many foods you can use to create each layer. Make a layer of mini marshmallows, a layer of cookie crumbles then a layer of whipped cream. Or, layer pudding and whip cream (nearly as messy as ice cream but delicious nonetheless). Make something totally different by doing a layer of gummy worms then a layer of crumbled cookies to represent dirt. These are popular at little boys’ parties.
You can decide what types of foods to combine to make the party treats you want. Fill the cups with just one type of candy or combine several types. Or, just fill each cone with nuts and mints. There are many foods or combinations you can create. And, the cones don’t have to be strictly for birthday parties; use them to give treats out for holidays and other events.
A partial list of things you can mix and match in the cup include candies, brownie pieces, cookies, marshmallows, cereal, small cookies, mints, jawbreakers, gumballs, sugar wafer pieces, chocolate syrup, donut holes and even candy sprinkles. Things you would normally top ice cream with are also great for the ice cream cone cups.
There are no rules that state you must serve ice cream at a child’s birthday party. You make your own rules, and in your house, the ice cream cones are served a little differently than at other people’s parties!
