When my husband announced that he was going moose hunting, we ended up buying a lot of special items for his trip. Weight is always an issue when packing stuff into the wilderness, so real plates and bowls were out of the question. When we compared prices of heavy duty paper bowls at Target, the Up & Up brand was super cheap!
We compared the Up & Up Heavy Duty Paper Bowls to Dixie Bowls (in fact the front of the package says to compare their prices to Dixie), and the Up & Up brand rang up at $2.49, while the Dixie brand retailed for $4.29, more than two dollars more!
Granted, the Dixie brand was more attractive, but my husband said he didn’t care what the bowls looked like. Both brands contained 28 bowls that hold 20 ounces, so these were the larger size of the two that Target had on their shelves.
The Up & Up package claims that the bowls are “Grease resistant” and “Microwavable”. They measure a generous 7 1/4 inches in diameter, and are about 1 1/2″ deep. The back of the package lists a warning about using these to heat food in the microwave, stating that they are “Recommended only for limited microwave use in re-heating food. Check bowl before removing from oven – use caution”.
Since my husband did not need all 28 of these bowls for a few days out hunting, we are using the rest of them in place of our regular dishes to eat ice cream, cereal, chili, even such foods as nachos. These are so strong that they can hold a lot of food, and they are the perfect size for a complete meal. They would be the natural choice to take out camping or to pack in a motor home or trailer. I could see using these for a child’s birthday party so you don’t have to mess with washing all of the dishes afterward.
I don’t like throwing my money away on disposable items, but sometimes you just need to purchase an item like this because there is nothing else that will fit the need, and this was our situation. The fact that these bowls were so inexpensive really helped me feel better about purchasing them, and Target claims that this purchase helps them give 5% of their income to different communities. Good for them!
I have had some mixed results when buying Up & Up products sold at Target stores, but I really have no complaints about these Up & Up Heavy Duty Paper Bowls, they are a solid product, and Target promises to “Make good products at good prices”.
