Do you ever stop to realize how many lids you throw out with the garbage? Lids from soda and water bottles, lids on spice jars, paint can lids – there’s no end to the madness! Stop it right now! Never throw a lid away again, because each time you do, you’re throwing away new ornaments, trivets, rubber stamps and more! Lids have dozens of uses – even in a dollhouse. There are many things you can make for Barbies that would otherwise cost you!
Make a storage seat for a Barbie house by using a spray can lid. Since the lids are colored according to the color of paint the can contains it’s not necessary to do anything to the lid. However, if you want, you can cover it with fake fur, felt or fabric. Cut a circle from thin cardboard; the circle should be a little larger than the seat. Cover the circle to match the paint can lid. Glue roping, pom-poms or other raised-up items around the disk. Set the can lid on the disk and make a small cushion for it. This makes a fabulous seat with storage room inside. Simply lift the lid and store all sorts of accessories inside.
Use 3-liter bottle lids – painted or not – to make a cute wall organizer for shoes, jewelry and more. Use glue or double-sided tape to stick the lids to a wall of the dollhouse so that the flat sides are against the wall. Now set pairs of shoes, hats, hosiery and other things inside the lids. Group them together to make a flower design or other image. Or, wrap each lid with a piece of feather boa to make a glitzy arrangement.
Use larger lids, like from spice jars, to make hanging shelves. Cut a piece of felt or fabric to glue to the inside of the lid. Cut a piece of cardboard to go across the center of the inside of the lid. Wrap feather boa or fake fur around the lid. Hang the lid on a wall and you have shelves for shoes, jewelry, accessories or even small Barbie nick-knacks.
Make a beautiful wall mirror by using a lid from a peanut butter jar, mayonnaise jar or other jar. Paint the inside of the jar lid gold or another color. Glue a small, craft store mirror to the inside of the lid. Wrap the outside of the lid with feather boa or fake fur. Stick the large lid to a wall to create an impressive mirror.
Stack water bottle lids to make a pedestal planter. Glue several of them together, upside-down, then glue the last one on, right-side-up. Paint the lids then glue small flowers and greenery in the top lid. You can even stack lids, then glue a wooden piece on top, to make a pedestal end table or kitchen table. Use single lids as planters for the side of a tub, a kitchen counter or atop a dresser.
There are many other things you can make for the dollhouse by using lids. You don’t have to have lots of money to have cool dollhouse furnishings; you just have to have food and beverages in your own kitchen!
