Why would you ever go out and buy a small toolbox or art supply holder when you can buy a bucket instead? That’s right, a bucket is the same thing as a toolbox or art supply organizer! It will be, anyway, when you do a couple of things to it to make it a little more accommodating. The finished bucket kits are perfect for kids and adults alike and can be used to organize and carry all sorts of things.
You can make a very simplistic version of a bucket carrier by simply gluing cardboard or plastic rings inside. Paint or otherwise decorate the circles, if you want. Align several rings, side-by-side, all the way around the inside of the bucket, a few inches from the very top. The rings can be sections cut from bathroom tissue rolls or large, heavy cardboard circles from a roll of tape. Glue them to the bucket, as well as each other, using hot glue or another adhesive suitable for the bucket type you have.
You can use the rings as-is or you can make them a little sturdier by gluing a small-diameter dowel under each one. Mark a place just opposite of where the ring is attached to the bucket. Glue a dowel to the bottom of the bucket and glue the other end just under the edge of the cardboard roll. Space the dowels evenly apart, all the way around.
Make a different design, that’s a little more difficult, but will last for many years. Drill holes in the bucket, a few inches from the top, all the way around the outside of the bucket. Space these a couple of inches apart. Now you can thread wire or even zip-ties through the holes to create the loops inside for holding tools and other things.
Make a different version by cutting long, narrow rectangles of fabric or felt. Fold one short end up about a third of the way, then glue the sides. Lay the fabric over the bucket and glue the no-pocket end to the inside of the bucket. Leave the pocket side hanging out over the bucket. Glue the fabric in place before attaching cardboard circles or before drilling holes for wires or zip-ties. The outside pockets and inside hoops can hold paintbrushes, tools, rulers and more. The inside of the bucket can be used to store cloths, tape measure, gloves and similar things. It’s a handy way to carry around your small selection of tools or a child’s collection of art supplies.
