While shopping at a Hartford, Connecticut grocery store last week, I happened to notice several containers of UTZ brand Salsa displayed near the UTZ brand snack items. Until then, I didn’t know that UTZ made salsa. I decided to purchase a container of this salsa and I’m glad that I did so.
This tasty salsa is every bit as good as higher – priced, name brand varieties of salsa, but its retail price is significantly lower than most other brands. Presented here, is one food writer’s honest and objective product review of UTZ brand Salsa.
The net weight of the container of UTZ brand Salsa being reviewed here is 3.8 ounces. When I first saw this container of salsa, I figured that it would only supply approximately one serving, but it actually provided two ample – sized servings. The package label does state that the entire container counts as one servng, however. The size of the individual ingredient pieces in this salsa is about the same as most other brands of salsa.
The regular retail price charged for one 3.8 ounce container of UTZ brand Salsa at Hartford, Connecticut area food retailers is approximately $0.99c. I must say, this price seems very reasonable to me. I like the fact that a smaller container that is less – expensive than the major, name brands of salsa is now available at food retailers.
As with every UTZ brand product that I have tried, this salsa is just as good as other brands’ versions of the item, but it is priced significantly lower than most other brands.
The texture offered by UTZ brand Salsa is comparable to most name brand (and more expensive) varieties of salsa. This salsa is pretty thick, the way it should be and not at all watery. The pieces of tomato, peppers and onion are soft, but not mushy and the overall mouth – feel offered by this product is pleasant.
UTZ brand Salsa contains 45 calories, with 0 calories from fat, per 3.8 ounce serving. Unfortunately, even close up, with my reading glasses on, I couldn’t read the rest of the nutritional data, because of its small size and could not find accurate information online.
Taste / Flavor
The flavor offered by UTZ brand Salsa is actually quite pleasant and fresh – tasting. The flavors of the various ingredients in this salsa work great together and the overall taste of the item is well – balanced. Like most salsas, the dominant flavor in this version is the tomato and its acidity is counter – acted nicely by the peppers and onion.
I’m still trying to figure out if this salsa contains cilantro. To me, it tastes like there is, but the ingredients are printed so small, I can’t read them. This salsa does feature a little ‘kick’, or spiciness, but it is quite minimal. The taste of this salsa is nice and mellow, yet still interesting and satisfying.
UTZ brand Salsa is packaged in a small, clear plastic container that resembles a ramekin, or small, plastic tub. The lid is actually a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil that features an over – hanging pull – tab that makes opening the container easy. The lid of the UTZ brand Salsa also re – closes effectively. The foil lid features a yellow background and has an attractive illustration of a tomato, peppers and onion in the foreground.
Of course, the smiling little girl who is part of the UTZ logo, is also on the label. The container does list nutrition facts on the side of the container, but the data is hard to read, because it is printed very small.
All things considered, UTZ brand Salsa is a very flavorful variety of salsa that is comparable to any other brand of salsa. Packed full of tomatoes, peppers and onion, this condiment is mildly – spicy and is a great complement to any type of snack chip or cracker. This reasonably – priced salsa is available at food retailers across America and is a recommended item by this food writer.
