A few summers ago my husband and I bought black wrought iron fencing from Home Depot, and it has held up well except for the cheaply designed gate closure. After enduring two Alaskan winters, we had issues with one of the two gates in particular. The ground or the stakes had shifted and we could no longer close it. This certainly presented a problem since we needed the fence to keep our dog in our yard.
My husband kept asking me what we could use to keep the gate closed, and I told him I thought some type of Velcro product would work. Then one day when I was at Lowe’s I happened across a package of Velcro brand Reusable Ties. There were 50 straps in the package, 25 black and 25 gray. The package states they are made specifically for wires and cords, and shows a bundle of cable all tied together with these Velcro Reusable Ties.
They come in rolls, and each tie measures eight inches in length and they are a half inch wide. The ties are all connected, and to tear one of the eight inch sections off of the roll you have to pull quite hard (they are sort of perforated). Clearly these seem to be designed so that you can use several ties together if you need more than eight inches.
The Velcro Brand Reusable Ties are tapered at the ends (or tips), and this fits easily into a slot at the other end. The back side (or wrong side) of the ties feel like a soft felt or flannel, white the top (or right side) is roughly textured. The two surfaces join to form a very strong bond.
I think of these more like a strap than I do a tie, and they have been the perfect solution to keeping the gate on our fence closed. My husband and I have been very impressed! In a nutshell, these ties wrap around onto themselves for a very secure hold. They are very easy to use and can be attached very quickly, I like the fact that they are so adjustable and you can keep together as many of the eight inch lengths as you need for any particular job.
Velcro Brand Reusable Ties can be sued for both indoor and outdoor use, and the packaging says they are designed for “Light Duty” use. Our fence is only about 3 feet tall, and the gate is not very heavy, but still I was not sure these would be strong enough to keep the gate closed, but they have worked perfectly!
This is a genuine Velcro product, and I believe I paid about $6 for the package of 50 ties, not a bad price considering how useful they are. We are now using them to keep all of the wires and cords from our various electronics neatly bundled together. In years past my husband used black electricians tape, but that is messy and does not come off easily. If you do get it off, it often leaves a sticky residue on your cords and wires. These are the perfect solution!
Glad to recommend Velcro Brand Reusable Ties!
