Jessica Gamble, a 21-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio, woman, apparently thought that making a video of her 2-year-old daughter smoking pot was a good idea. The woman is allegedly heard laughing and encouraging her daughter, who smokes the joint like someone accustomed to it. Watching the scenario play out on video, the 2-year-old holds the marijuana joint and puffs away, watching television. Afterward, Jessica Gamble also apparently thought it was a good idea to forward the cell phone video to friends. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, one of those friends didn’t think that Gamble’s idea of allowing her 2-year-old to smoke pot was such a good idea and notified authorities.
“It’s beyond disgusting,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters noted at a press conference. He added, “What’s quite disconcerting is she is handling this like she’s done this before.”
Jessica Gamble was indicted Wednesday and charged with corrupting another with drugs, child endangering and tampering with evidence. The charges could put the woman behind bars for 11 and a half years.
At one point in the video, Jessica Gamble is heard instructing the child not to “blow on it.” At another point, she asks the child what it is.
The video, which was turned into authorities in August, has sparked outrage throughout the U. S.
Deters said that the tampering with evidence charge came as a result of Gamble deleting the video from her cell phone.
The 2-year-old has been placed with a relative while the Department of Jobs and Family Services investigates the matter.
Still, Gamble’s is not the first time small children have been videotaped smoking pot. CNN reported in March that a video recovered in a Texas case about stolen goods depicted a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old smoking marijuana. Two teenagers were charged with a third-degree felony for encouraging the children to smoke. The video showed the teens “essentially trying to get them high,” the children stumbling around and one handling the joint “like he’s done it before,” according to a Wautauga Police Department spokesman.
The two small boys were placed in custody of Child Protective Services.
Jessica Gamble is due in court to answer the charges on September 20.
