Affiliate marketing is nothing new, but the methods and scope of promotion are. Every day we see ads on the sidebar of our favorite sites and sometimes banner or footer ads on the web-pages that we visit daily. These are but a few methods that site owners monetize their web pages. Something key is in our inevitable return or those that visit being new users who might share with our friends. Like buttons, sharing links and wall posting are things that facebook is known for. Like Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites offer instant updates on what your friends are doing, what your favorite companies are offering and even what news organizations around the world are broadcasting in print or via video through television and Internet streaming.
With the scope of the game changed with new sites that everyone uses, single individuals able to publish to 5,000 friends or celebrities broadcasting their activities and thoughts to the minute to millions who “follow” or “like” them. Facebook fan pages allow individuals or groups of fan page administrators to broadcast to thousands, hundreds of thousands or millions of people who have clicked a “like” button. A single broadcast from a celebrity or fan page administrator offers power that was unrivaled except by the largest web site owners and TV broadcasters. These days, some sixteen year old children make hundreds or thousands of dollars with such posts. The world has seemed to turn upside down for marketers. One day it’s a skillful game of knowing more about what Search Engine Optimization routines do best with Google, Yahoo and Bing and now Facebook is one of the worlds top two sites, right under Google. Reaching 400 to 500 million people is no joke.
