Do you wish you could spend more time at the Library? Now you can! Volunteer for one of several volunteer job openings in the City of Mountain View Public Library’s Children’s Services department. Volunteer positions include Board Book Shelving Assistant, Shelving Assistant, and Paperback Shelving Assistant.
None of the three positions would require more than six hours a week of volunteer time and all are essential for helping to keep the shelves stocked and organized in the Children’s Services department. Applicants should have an attention to detail, be able to learn the Dewey Decimal System and other ways that the Library shelves items, and mobility.
For the Board Book Shelving Assistant position, the volunteer would be required to organize board books according to size, shape, and series. This allows children and other library patrons to find the books they are looking for more easily.
The Shelving Assistant requires that the volunteer place library items on shelves in alphabetical and numerical order. The Shelving Assistant shelves a variety of children’s items including books, CD’s, DVD’s, videotapes, and audiotapes. A volunteer who is detail oriented would work best in this position.
All three volunteer positions provide on-the-job training. If you are interested in one of the Children’s Services volunteer positions, contact library supervisor Maynard Martinez at 408-526-7043. The City of Mountain View Public Library is located at 585 Franklin Street, Mountain View.
