Passion is alive and well in politics. This year I’ve been amazed at all the ads I’ve seen daily to get out the vote. In Maryland, the race for governor is heated. Governor Ehrlich and current Governor O’Malley just don’t like each other. Both camps expect to get votes of passion inspired on their side authenticity. The inspired Maryland votes of passion are mild compared to the inspired campaigns across the country.
Here are my view of the top 5 votes of passion inspiring national races.
Number 5 Votes of Passion: San Fransisco Nancy Pelosi vs Nancy Pelosi’s Record
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi is hated. Some insane attack ads portray the Speaker of the house as the wicked witch of the west. Nancy Pelosi is used to inspire votes of passion in races of other Non-California candidates. Even if the Democrats retain the House, Speaker Pelosi is not likely to retain her position through a vote of passion within her party. Speaker Pelosi is a ground breaking historic legislator whom has a solid record of public service. With consistently over 72% voter support in her district, votes of passion will not take Speaker Pelosi out of office, but certainly her role will be forever changed.
Number 4 Vote of Passion: Florida Senate Seat Marco Rubio vs Charlie Christ vs Kendrick Meeks
In the Florida Senate race, you have an independent vs a democrat vs a republican. This race is unique and messy. Vote’s of Passion made Republican Marco Rubio a candidate for senate. Rubio has maintained a lead in the polls consistently. Independent Charlie Christ has local and national name recognition though he trails in the polls. Democratic Candidate Meeks is one whom has had trouble outshining the two other candidates whom have more national popularity.
Number 3 NY Governor Race Carl Paladino vs Jimmy McMillan vs Andrew Cuomo
Saturday Night Live (SNL) has enjoyed this New York Governor Race. Republican candidate Carl Paladino has had much national attention for his antics. Democratic candidate Andrew Cuomo has had a strong record and a comfortable lead.
Nationally however, Jimmy McMillan of “The Rent is Too Dam High” party has the buzz. Jimmy McMillan might not come close to winning the election. However, Jimmy ran away with the national attention from the NY governor’s debate. Even SNL considered the “Rent is Too Dam High Party” worthy of focus. To even get in this race, Jimmy McMillan had to garner votes of passion on a single issue.
Number 2 Vote of Passion: Christine O’Donnell vs Chris Coons
Republican Christine O’Donnell is an example of someone that has used Speaker Pelosi in a campaign that has literally nothing to do with her. O’Donnell was swept into candidacy with votes of passion followed by waves of campaign fund raising. Democrat Chris Coons solidly leads in this race though public attention is squarely focused on his opponent and her votes of passion.
Number 1 Vote of Passion: Sharron Angle Vs Harry Reid
Nevada’s race at any other time would be different. Many have stated that any other candidate against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would have a double digit lead. Nevada currently has 14.2% unemployment rate which is 48% higher than the national average. Nevada foreclosures are out of control and remains one of the nations hot beds. As recent as September the Las Vegas-Paradise area top national stats with 1 in every 25 homes receiving a foreclosure warning which is 400% higher than the national average.
Yet Republican Sharron Angle consistently confused, bewildered, and divisive. Sharron Angle has presented questionable statement like It stands to reason Harry Reid can run ads like d “Sharron Angle’s Crazy Juice” and be not too far off base. Yet as amazingly divisive as Sharron Angle is, she is still leading in this Senate race based upon votes of passion.
Clearly in this year, votes of passion are on the rise. We will see what happens after the election to see if the votes of passion lead to logical choices of common sense to move the nation forward.
