Some weddings are elegant; some are simplistic. Of course, you can always combine the two and have an expensive wedding while spending very little money. This is especially true when you make your own décor and accents. You might have to pay big bucks for the cake, food and other wedding necessities but you definitely don’t have to break the bank when it comes to creating a gorgeous look for the tables!
Most any large craft store carries a nice selection of small mirrors. The mirrors have no frames and come in shapes like squares, circles and ovals. The mirrors are available in really small sizes or types that are a little larger. They’re not expensive and that makes it easy to make several candle mirror pieces that create a beautiful wedding atmosphere with very little cash.
Use a votive candle to create the warm glow for the mirror accents. Simply setting one candle on each mirror can finish the look for the tables. Or, you can take the craft a little further and make it much nicer. A second option for the candle part of the mirror is to turn a glass votive candle holder upside-down and set it in the center of the glass. Or, use a shot glass or similar glass piece as the focus for the mirror. With these upside-down glasses you can use a simple tea light as the glow. Purchase ones that come in the small metal container and glitter the cheap metal to look a little glitzier. Or, tie a wide ribbon around the candle to conceal the metal container. Position the tiny candle on the shot glass or other object.
No matter what the shapes of the mirrors you can easily make candle rings that encircle them. This makes the arrangement appear larger and more beautiful. If you’re using round mirrors cut donut shapes; with square mirrors cut picture frame-type shapes. Use thin cardboard to cut a shape the size of the mirror, then draw a larger, similar shape around it. The cardboard circle, square or oval should be a few inches wide.
Glue painted potpourri, dried flowers, painted sea shells, sea glass, small foil balls or other glittery items onto the candle ring. Set the ring around the mirror with the candle centered on top. Now the look is complete. These simple but elegant pieces might be inexpensive but they’ll set the mood for the whole wedding table!
