Kobe’s Week 13 Picks
The question of the week; what did Derek Anderson say to Deuce Lutui? I don’t know if we will finds the answer to that questions but Derek might want to ask about a good realtor to sell his house in Arizona because after the season he will be out of work due to his awful play. I am not sure what Arizona was thinking at the beginning of the season letting Matt Leinart go when surely he couldn’t have played any worse than Anderson.
I went 3-1 last week picking New Orleans, Houston, and Atlanta as my winners and my loan loosing pick was the Eagles. My season record now stands at 24-24, climbing back to .500 for the 1st time in weeks. On to my Week 13 picks.
Game #1 Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens:
If there were ever 2 teams in the league that most mirror each other it’s these 2 teams and the winner of this game takes the sole possession lead of the AFC North. This game could go a long way to determining who will win the AFC North period.
The Steelers bring in the 5th ranked Defense with the Passing D ranking 22nd and the Run D ranking 1st allowing only 64 yards a game. The Passing Defense could pose a bit of a problem for the Steelers considering Flacco has thrown for 2752 yards and is on pace to have his most productive year to date.
This game could go either way but I have a hard time believing that either team will sweep the season series. The Ravens won the 1st go around meaning I have to go with the Steelers in this one.
What if: If the Ravens can get the run game going they will win this game.
Prediction: Steelers 24 Ravens 21
Game #2 New York Jets @ New England Patriots:
When you look at the numbers in this game the one major difference between these two teams is the Patriots Defense ranking 31st overall. It’s hard not to overlook that Defensive stat but with the Patriots Offense starting to fire on all cylinders they can just hide their Defense by scoring so many points. Note: the Patriots score 30.4 pts per game ranking 1st.
The Jets won the first game between these two teams and like the Ravens and Steelers I don’t see a sweep happening. I look for this game to be won on a last second field goal.
What if: If the Jets, with their really good Defense, can put pressure on Brady they can win this came and take sole possession of the AFC East.
Prediction: Jets 21 Patriots 24
Game #3 Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans:
The Jags and Titans are within a game of each other in the AFC South but the same can be said for the Texans and Colts considering two teams are set at 6-5 and two teams are set at 5-6.
The Titans won the 1st meeting between these two teams but are riding a 4 game losing streak and have questions around the QB position. All arrows point to Kerry Collins being the starter this week coming back from a calf injury which will help the running game a great deal with the way Kerry likes to throw the ball down field.
The Jags were on a hot streak of sorts winning 3 in a row until they lost a close one last week to the Giants. David Garrard is still not playing inconsistent from week to week but has the best passer rating he has had since 2007 and has been played well during the Jags 3 game win streak.
This week I lean towards the Titans as long as Kerry Collins starts at QB. Collins can force the Jags Defense to use double coverage on Moss which will open things up for Chris Johnson to run the ball.
What if: If the Garrard can play well, using both his legs and arm to keep plays alive the Jags can win this game.
Prediction: Jaguars 17 Titans 21
Game #4 Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
The Falcons have been playing outstanding football winning their last 5 in a row with 4 of the 5 wins coming at home where Matt Ryan has lost only 1 game since he has been in the league. They have beat quality opponents in the Packers, Ravens, and the Buc’s during this stretch.
The Buc’s have really come a long way this season coming off a 3-13 record a year ago. The growth of Josh Freeman and a very good Pass Defense has been a major part of the Buc’s turning things around. The hidden facts behind the wins for the Buc’s this season is that they really haven’t had a quality win with the closest being a win over the Rams in week 7 but in the NFL a win is a win and none are easy.
In this game I am going with the Falcons in a season sweep of the Buc’s. I do want to say that the future is bright in Tampa and I look for Freeman to be a top 10 QB next season.
What if: The Buc’s can keep Turner and the Falcons from running the ball with success they can win this game.
Prediction: Falcons 25 Buccaneers 20
