Week 4 of “Dancing with the Stars” revealed the weaknesses and strengths of the dancers because of the intimacy of the round acoustic stage. The results show on Tuesday, October 13 continued the acoustic theme with its live musical performances and “Macy’s Stars of Dance.” Like last week, there were few surprises as to possible candidates for elimination. Two performers — The Situation and Bristol Palin — were in the bottom at the end of the show.
The beginning of this episode of “Dancing with the Stars” revealed that all of the top three scorers were saved — Jennifer and Derek, Brandy and Maksim, and Audrina and Tony. The judges chose Jennifer and Derek for an encore of their Argentine tango. There’s no doubt that it was the best dance of the season so far. Fifty years old or not, she has the best posture and footwork of any of the celebrities left.
I don’t think most people were surprised that The Situation got the ax. He struggled for most of the show. From the behind-the-scenes footage, he didn’t take the judges’ criticisms to well and thought they were being too harsh. As the season progresses, the judges get more critical because their expectations heighten because only the celebrities who’ve improved should be left. The Situation just doesn’t have the stuff to compete with any of the other people left, including the other male contestants. At least, the audience got to see him without all of the posturing on “The Jersey Shore.”
The Grammy-nominated Goo Goo Dolls performed a medley of their songs “Iris” and “Not Broken.” I thought it was a good performance, especially since I haven’t heard anything from them in a long time.
British group Florence and the Machine gave an acoustic performance of their song “Dog Days are Over.” Even if you’ve never heard of the group, their music has been featured on the trainer for “Eat, Pray, Love” and television shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “V.”
Len Goodman gave tips on how to get a 10 from him, with current cast of celebrities poses as students. Some of his tips make sense, which includes pointing your feet, chemistry with your partner, entertainment value and improvement. This is the only time so far this season that Audrina Patridge drew upon her airhead image on “The Hills.”
“Forever Tango” performed on the results show’s “Macy’s Stars of Dance.” It was interesting watching the four couples maneuvering on the small stage. The Broadway show features dancers performing the Argentine tango.
Of course, some of the cast members of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” where in the audience promoting Sunday’s show. The Sunday, October 17 episode features “Dancing with the Stars” cast members Derek Hough, Chelsie Hightower, Mark Ballas and Tony Dovolani remodel a 70-year-old home.
There were no surprise eliminations this week; however, Week 5 and 6 historically are the weeks where good dancers get eliminated. Tune in for “TV Theme Week” on Monday, October 18.
