After the negativity of Week 3 on “The Biggest Loser,” the contestants were ready for action on Week 4 of the show. As with every season, the show featured its first temptation challenge. Allison revealed that two contestants would be sent home this week. The seeds of division manifested themselves on this week’s episode, and again, most of the women ended up below the yellow line.
The contestants faced tables of frosted, mouthwatering cupcakes. The player who found a chip in a cupcake earns a one-pound advantage for the week. Whoever finds the chip and keeps it receives an additional pound each week. The drawback was they had to eat any cupcake they touched. A few contestants stood behind instead of gorging themselves on cupcakes.
Adam eventually found the right cupcake, consuming 1,350 calories in all. Players made known that they would vote him off if he fell below the yellow line. This was the first sign of alliances and divisions among the players. Bob and Jillian, who both hate food-related challenges, paid them back with a hard work out. Adam saved his one-pound advantage. He didn’t need it, losing 10 lbs.
Of course, the challenge served as an introduction to learning about healthy desserts from Chef Curtis Stone. Every time Curtis Stone has visited the ranch, female contestants go crazy. I just don’t see it. Besides the fact that he can cook, I don’t get his appeal. His 100-calorie cupcake recipe looked good, light and frosty. The recipe is available on “The Biggest Loser” website.
Ada, who consistently lost steady amounts of weights, didn’t seem happy with her 10-lb weight loss this week. She even mentioned how she expects something bad to happen; therefore, she doesn’t get happy. Jillian felt she needed to have an emotional breakthrough. A lot of her attitude stems from the death of her brothers, particularly one who drowned when she was two years old.
Bob invited the six players below the yellow line to his home and showed them his refrigerator and treated them to a vegan meal. I was happy to see his sparse refrigerator. My refrigerator looks rarely empty too because my husband and I shop a few times a week for fresh foods.
The greatest accomplishment of the week was Frado, who in only four weeks, no longer takes a pharmacy of medications. He also lost the most weight and had the highest percentage of weight loss, a total of 20 lbs. and 5.93 percent. He had the opportunity to save one of his fellow contestants. Frado saved Jessica, who was just below the yellow line.
Burgandy could not participate in the challenge round because of an injury, automatically putting her up for eliminations. They had to unfurl carpet on a square roll across a field. Burgandy and Elizabeth lost the challenge. Burgandy received four votes. Sophia weighed 225 lbs. at the time of the taping, dropping from 272 lbs. She works as a spinning instructor. Burgandy weighed 180 lbs. (started at 231).
This week, Ada showed how hard it is to transform the mind, even if the body and health improves. Though she’s had weight-loss success, her parents negative commits about her looks and blaming her for her brothers’ deaths run deep. Hopefully, we will see Ada smile in the coming weeks.
