Week 5 – RB Rankings
1. Michael Turner – Atl = @Cle
Overall just a solid matchup Turner and the Falcons offense this week. And even though the Browns defense has not allowed a rushing touchdown yet this season, Turner could easily change that this week. 100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown is a good bet for Turner in this game.
2. Maurice Jones-Drew – Jac = @Buf
Finally reaching the 100 rushing yard plateau last week, to go along with 2 touchdowns, Jones-Drew could be in store for a huge game this week. With a matchup against the Buffalo Bills who are statistically the worst run defense in the entire NFL so far this season, as they have given up an average of 174 rushing yards per game and a total of 7 touchdowns, Jones-Drew should be fantasy football gold this week. 150 total yards and 2 touchdowns are very likely for Jones-Drew in this game.
3. Arian Foster – Hou = NYG
Playing in only three quarters last week, Foster still managed to tally exceptional stats. A matchup against the Giants will be a bit tougher, but when you look at Foster’s ability as both a rushing and receiving RB, his stats are seemingly matchup proof.
4. Frank Gore – SF = Phi
With the 49ers offense struggling, touchdowns have been hard to come by for Gore so far this season. However, offering exceptional yardage numbers in both rushing and receiving, including tallying 270 rushing yards and 263 receiving yards through just 4 games this season, Gore should once again be an excellent total yardage RB this week for fantasy football teams. 150 total yards is likely, and a touchdown is well within reach for Gore in this game as well.
5. Chris Johnson – Ten = @Dal
It was truly an awful game for Johnson against the Broncos last week, and a matchup in Dallas this week will not be any easier for him. Yet on the flip side, Johnson’s breakaway potential is too good to pass up. So if all goes well, a stat line resembling 100 total yards is likely, with a touchdown not out of the question either.
6. Adrian Peterson – Min = @NYJ
A no doubt tough matchup for the Minnesota offense this week, but if the Vikings plan on scoring a touchdown or tallying any sort of offensive yardage, Peterson is there best bet. 75 rushing yards is likely, with a touchdown possible.
7. Jahvid Best – Det = StL
All in all, the dreaded toe injury did not seem to hamper Best that much last week against the Packers. So unless he re-injures the toe in practice this week, Best could easily be in store for an excellent game this week against the Rams. 100-150 total yards is easily within reach, and a touchdown or two is definitely a possibility as well.
8. Steven Jackson – StL = @Det
So much for all that Jackson injury talk last week, as he promptly went out and tallied 70 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards. With injury questions likely to linger this week, I think we can consider Jackson a gamer who will just simply suit up and play this week. A matchup against the Lions could easily net Jackson 100 total yards, and a touchdown is also very likely.
9. Jamaal Charles – KC = @Ind
So far this season, the Colts defense has been terrible against the run, and so naturally the potent Kansas City rushing attack should take full advantage in this matchup. Both Charles and Thomas Jones are good bets to tally 100 rushing yards each in this game, but picking one of them first to start on my fantasy teams this week, I would go with Charles and his breakaway touchdown ability. 100-150 total yards and 1 touchdown is a good bet.
10. Peyton Hillis – Cle = Atl — SLEEPER / WAIVER WIRE PICKUP
Hillis is officially looking like the real deal. Another 20 plus rushing attempts is likely for Hillis again this week, and he definitely has a chance at posting a TD as well as 75-100 rushing yards.
11. Mike Tolbert – SD = @Oak
Even with Ryan Matthews back and playing last week, Tolbert was still the #1 RB in the Chargers offensive attack. And better yet, Tolbert looked great in that role. With goal line work his to lose, Tolbert is a solid bet to tally 50-75 rushing yards this week and a touchdown is very likely.
12. Thomas Jones – KC = @Ind
See Jamal Charles. 100 rushing yards is very possible for Jones this week, as he and Charles could combine for 40 rushing attempts in this game.
13. Ahmad Bradshaw – NYG = @Hou / injury ?
There is no denying that Bradshaw is the clear cut featured RB in the Giants offense right now, and he should be a solid play this week for fantasy football teams this week. 50-100 rushing yards is likely, with a touchdown possible as well.
15. Ray Rice – Bal = Den / injury ?
Lingering injury questions, reduced goal line work with Willis McGahee swiping touchdowns, and a matchup against a Denver defense that just held Chris Johnson to 53 rushing yards on 19 attempts last week. All in all, it just does not look promising for Rice this week.
16. Matt Forte – Chi = @Car
If there was no running room for Forte with a gun slinging Cutler playing well, how much running room will be there if Cutler isn’t playing well…or in this weeks case, not at all.
17. Cedric Benson – Cin = TB
18. Chris Ivory – NO = @Ari — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
With Pierre Thomas out again, this is an excellent matchup for Ivory, as the Cardinals defense has surrendered an average of 154 rushing yards per game so far this season.
19. Fred Jackson – Buf = Jac — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
With Marshawn Lynch gone, Jackson is the running back I would want on my fantasy football team right now. I think he will play a bigger role than CJ Spiller at this point in the Bills offense.
20. DeAngelo Williams – Car = Chi
21. Michael Bush – Oak = SD — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
Bush could do very well in this game if McFadden’s hamstring injury is still a problem come game day.
22. Joseph Addai – Ind = KC / injury ?
23. Ryan Matthews – SD = @Oak / injury ?
24. Beanie Wells – Ari = NO
25. Ryan Torain – Was = GB — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
Torain could do surprisingly well against the Packers run defense this week if given enough carries.
26. CJ Spiller – Buf = Jac — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
The Jaguars defense has given up their share of rushing yards and touchdowns so far this season, and Spiller could be in store for one of those TDs this week.
27. LaDainian Tomlinson – NYJ = Min
This looks like just too tough of a matchup for Tomlinson’s legs and his lack of speed against a fast Vikings defense.
28. Felix Jones – Dal = Ten
29. Brandon Jacobs – NYG = @Hou
30. LeSean McCoy – Phi = @SF / injury ?
With Michael Vick knocked out of last weeks game, Kevin Kolb immediately went to McCoy in the passing game, which was evident by McCoy’s 12 receptions for 110 receiving yards. Combine in his rushing yardage of 64 in that game, and McCoy could easily be looking at stats in the range of 100-150 total yards in this weeks game.
31. Shonn Greene – NYJ = Min
33. Jonathan Stewart – Car = Chi
34. Willis McGahee – Bal = Den
35. Dexter McCluster – KC = @Ind — SLEEPER / SPOT STARTER
36. Tim Hightower – Ari = NO
37. John Kuhn – GB = @Was
If you are looking at the Packers RB situation, Kuhn is the one I would want to start right now.
38. Laurence Maroney – Den = @Bal
39. Marion Barber – Dal = Ten
40. Jason Snelling – Atl = @Cle
41. Kevin Smith – Det = StL
42. Donald Brown – Ind = KC / injury ?
43. Brandon Jackson – GB = @Was
44. Jerome Harrison – Cle = Atl
45. Carnell Williams – TB = @Cin
46. Darren Sproles – SD = @Oak
47. Correll Buckhalter – Den = @Bal
48. Steve Slaton – Hou = NYG
49. Kenneth Darby – StL = @Det
50. LaGarrett Blount – TB = @Cin
51. Chester Taylor – Chi = @Car
52. Tashard Choice – Dal = Ten
53. Mike Goodson – Car = Chi
54. Mike Bell – Phi = @SF
55. Javon Ringer – Ten = @Dal
56. Bernard Scott – Cin = TB
57. Toby Gerhart – Min = @NYJ
58. Maurice Morris – Det = StL
59. LeRon McClain – Bal = Den
60. Kareem Huggins – TB = @Cin
61. Brian Westbrook – SF = Phi
62. James Davis – Cle = Atl
63. Anthony Dixon – SF = Phi
64. Keiland Williams – Was = GB
15. Darren McFadden – Oak = SD / injury – OUT WILL NOT PLAY
McFadden could easily be ranked higher in these RB rankings if not for a slight hamstring injury he sustained last week. Tough to say just how much it will affect him and his fantasy football value in this game. Especially since a very capable backup in Michael Bush is waiting in the wings.
23. Pierre Thomas – NO = @Ari / injury – OUT WILL NOT PLAY
