Kobe’s Week 6 NFL Picks
I had a good week 5 going 3-1 bringing my season total back to 500. at 10-10. Lesson learned and also might make the Viking fans happy; I will not be picking their games anymore this season and Yes I am a closet Vikings fan even though my Lions are in the same division.
A quick look back on week 5: The Lions played well and come up with a big win against a Rams team that has been playing well. The Chiefs, even though they lost, played a tight game with the Colts. Houston hit an early season speed bump and fell back to earth. Lastly, when will T.O. get vocal about the Bengals losing?
The Byes for Week 6 are: Cardinals, Bills, Panthers, and Bengals
Let’s get to it with Game #1 Miami @ Green Bay:
Miami is coming off a Bye week and is healthy. They went into the Bye week with 2 back to back losses to in division teams. Chad Henne has been playing well but he needs to cut back on the picks. The key though is that the Dolphins are healthy.
The Packers would love to be coming off a Bye week because after a road loss and several injuries later they are in a tough spot this week.
The Pack is already missing Atari Bigby (S), Atari’s back-up; Morgan Burnett, Nick Barnett, and Ryan Grant. Add to that Tight Ends Jermichael Finley and Donald Lee, lastly but most importantly Aaron Rogers. Aaron Rogers may be back this week but when a player goes down with a concussion it’s really up in the air.
Let’s say that Rogers is good to go this week, the loss of both 1st and 2nd team Tight Ends hurts the Packs Offense since a lot of what the Packers do included the Tight End.
Look for Henne to continue to put up good numbers this week and for Brandon Marshall to really have a big impact for the Dolphins. Also look for the Dolphins Defense to come up bit.
What if: Winning in Lambeau is always tough and with Aaron Rogers the Pack always has a chance. If the Defense can put the clamps on the Dolphins passing game they can pull this one out.
Prediction: Miami 26 Green Bay 20
Game #2: Baltimore @ New England:
All things considered, for me, this the game of the week. I am a believer in the Ravens but know that the Patriots are always going to be prepared to compete especially coming off a Bye week.
The Ravens Offense looks like it is starting to click with everyone getting comfortable with each other. The O Coordinator, Cam Cameron, has to feel like a kid in a candy store with the weapons he can dial up.
The Defense, although didn’t shut down Kyle Orton, they contained the running game along with the Denver Offense well enough for a big win.
New England had a Bye week to regroup but in doing so traded away Randy Moss, the guy the stretched the field and opened things up for Wes Welker to be so successful underneath. They just signed Deion Branch but Deion is not Randy Moss.
What if: If the Pats can put the loss of Randy Moss in the review mirror and can run the ball on a very stout Ravens D, they can win this game.
Prediction: Ravens 24 Patriots 14
Game #3: Atlanta @ Philadelphia:
It doesn’t seem clear at this time who, at QB, will start for the Eagles but Vick is chomping at the bit to get back on the field. With the way the decision making has gone this season, Vick is liable to lose his starting job that he earned if Kolb plays well.
Keep in mind this is Vicks first time playing Atlanta since the dog fighting and it very well could be that Andy Reid either protects Vick or expects Vick to have a big game against his former team provided he is healthy enough to play. Vick’s health is TBD.
The Eagles have yet to beat a quality foe but seem to play well whether it is Kolb or Vick behind Center but the Offense is clearly more dynamic with Vick back there. The Eagles Defense is ranking 8th in passing yards allowed but 24th in rushing yards allowed which plays into the Falcons hands being ranked 2nd in the league in rushing yards gained.
The Falcons have just about played the same schedule as the Eagles with the exception of a win over a quality foe in the Saints. Look for the Falcons to play well this week and for Michael Turner to have a big day.
What if: If Vick plays he could be the difference between a win or lose.
Prediction: Atlanta 31 Philadelphia 24
Game # 4 Oakland @ San Francisco:
Although it may not seem like it this is a very interesting game. The 49ers are struggling at 0-5 and showed a little sign of life vs. the Eagles this past week but still the Offense is rated 31st in points scored. The 49ers Defense is a little better ranking 17th in overall Defense. I don’t expect the 49ers to do much more this year and if my expectations do happen I doubt Singletary will be make it to the end of the season even though reports are that his job is safe.
It seems that Tom Cable has finally figured out the engine that makes the Offense go is Gradkowski. Gradkowski has a banged up shoulder but will go if able on Sunday, according to reports. The Raiders running game didn’t miss a beat against the Chargers with Michael Bush, a bruising back, stepped in the Darren McFadden and I don’t think it will matter who starts this week at running back.
Oakland’s problems come on keeping teams out of the End Zone, ranking 28th in points against but Special Teams have been coming up big and with Janikowski able to hit 60 yard field goals it doesn’t take much for the Raiders to get into scoring position.
What if: Alex Smith can protect the ball and Frank Gore has a big day the 49ers can give Singletary another week of work.
Prediction: Oakland 24 San Francisco 13
