Rick, “The Biggest Loser” contestant eliminated on Week 5, appeared on “The Today Show” on October 26, 2010. Although he got the boot from the ranch, Rick lost more than 100 pounds at home and encouraged his family to join him in fighting fat. In his absence, the players were informed that only one person from each teams weight will count in the elimination and the opposite team choses the person whose weight will count. Of course, the teams will choose the person who they thought worked out less. This week was definitely stressful for all players, especially the low weight-loss losers.
Bob and Jillian worked their teams as hard as humanly possible. Jillian focused on Elizabeth, who loses weight slowly, while Bob’s team motivated Jessica, their low loser. Elizabeth, despite her weight loss, seemed to still repeat negative internal dialog in her head. Frado, who usually works out hard, seemed to be less motivated as well, even falling off the treadmill and having a dramatic meltdown. Jillian had one of her heart to hearts with Frado, trying to get him to figure out why he acts a certain way.
This week’s trivia challenge took place at a Four Seasons hotel, where Chefs Curtis Stone and Lorena Garcia (who lost 60 pounds herself) watch six contestants prepare healthy meals. The professional chefs couldn’t touch the food and the six players not cooking had a blind taste test. The show used this opportunity to plug Yoplait Greek yogurt. The judges based their decisions on appearance and taste. The Blue Team won the challenge in a tiebreaker, getting a 10-second advantage in the physical challenge. Of course, taste is subjective. What tastes good to one person may taste nasty to someone else.
The physical challenge brought the teams to the beach. The winner of the challenge could veto the other team’s first choice at the weight in. The teams had to compete in a Chinese boat race. At first, the 10-second advantage did not help the Blue Team. They had problems keeping the boat on course and turning. The teams ended up neck and neck. The Blue Team managed to pull it out in the end.
Jillian worked Elizabeth really hard in the last-chance workout in anticipation of the weigh-in. The Blue Team picked Elizabeth, as expected. The Black Team picked Jessica. Her team did not block the decision. At the end of the weigh-in, Elizabeth lost five pounds, for a percentage of 2.29. Jessica needed to lose five pounds. She missed it by one point with a percentage of 1.61 percent.
Had they used the block, the Blue Team would not have been in the elimination room. Jessica and Adam tied, so the Black Team could vote off anyone from the Blue Team except for Mark, who had the highest percentage of weight loss. The Black Team voted off Adam, the biggest threat on the team. His weight at time of the show was 264 pound.
I wish they put everybody’s percentage of weight loss up as I was watching the show. The fact that one person’s score stood for the whole team made everyone work harder, especially contestants who lost the least amount of weight. Next week, the contestants train like the US Marines.
