Week 8 – QB Rankings
1. Peyton Manning – Ind = Hou
Fresh off the bye week and facing the worst pass defense in the NFL this season, Manning should put up excellent passing yards even with Dallas Clark and Austin Collie out of this game. Add in an unhealthy running back situation for the Colts, and Manning could very easily be the only source of point scoring for the Colts offense in this game. 300-350 passing yards and 2-3 touchdowns are easily within reach for Manning this week.
2. Aaron Rodgers – GB = @NYJ
Tough matchup for Rodgers and the Packers offense this week, but there is no doubt that Rodgers will once again be leaned upon to move the ball for the offense this week against a Jets defense that is better against the run than the pass. 250-300 passing yards and 2 touchdowns is a good bet to expect from Rodgers in this game.
3. Philip Rivers – SD = Ten
With virtually no running game to rely upon in San Diego right now, Rivers is the sole offensive playmaker in the Chargers offense. Leading all NFL quarterbacks in passing yards this season, and ranking second in passing touchdowns, Rivers should continue his offensive output this week to the tune of 250-300 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
4. Drew Brees – NO = Pit
After an atrocious offensive display against the Cleveland Browns defense last week, Brees is clearly losing his edge of being considered a weekly must start QB option in fantasy football leagues right now. However, even though this is an extremely tough matchup for Brees and the Saints offense, the thing to remember is that the Steelers defense has been excellent against the run and just average against the pass so far this season. With this in mind, it seems like a no doubter that Brees will be looking at passing the ball around 50 times in this game. So while an interception or two is very possible, the potential for 300 plus passing yards and 2 touchdowns is also easily within reach for Brees in this game, which should be plenty beneficial for fantasy football teams this week.
5. Kyle Orton – Den = @SF
After high expectations for Orton in last weeks game, no one could have imagined just how bad the Broncos played in that game against the Oakland Raiders. A matchup against a struggling 49ers team could easil propel Orton to numbers in the range of 225-275 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns this week.
6. Ben Roethlisberger – Pit = @NO
Roethlisberger has not been great in his two games back from suspension, but he is still a top 10 fantasy football QB right now. A matchup against a struggling Saints team this week could have Roethlisberger eyeing stats in the range of 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
7. Matt Schaub – Hou = @Ind
After struggling in this matchup earlier in the season, Schaub could once again give way to Arian Foster and the Texans running game this week. However the upside for Schaub and the passing game is definitely there, so if the Colts defense decides to focus on stopping the Texans running game this week, then Schaub would be the beneficiary.
8. Tom Brady – NE = Min
Not an easy matchup, but the passing yards should still add up for Brady this week as he faces a Vikings defense that has been good but definitely not great this season. 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is easily within reach for Brady in this game.
9. Donovan McNabb – Was = @Det
While a matchup against the Lions in Detroit is no longer an easy win for any team, the reality is that the odds of the Redskins scoring in this game is very high. So with that in mind, it will either be the running game scoring two touchdowns, or McNabb and the passing attack getting in on the action for a touchdown or two. 200-250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
10. Jon Kitna – Dal = Jac / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Well if you could hand pick a single matchup that you would want to have Kitna start, this week is that one matchup. The Jaguars are awful on pass defense, Kitna clearly has excellent offensive targets at his disposal, and the game will be played in Dallas. So if you need a spot starter at QB this week, Kitna is definitely not your worst option. Something in the range of 200-250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns could be in store for Kitna this week.
11. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Buf = @KC / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
If you need a QB to spot start this week for your fantasy team and you are willing to gamble a little bit, then Fitzpatrick is your guy. It would not be surprising to see Fitzpatrick continue his excellent play this week, as stats in the range of 250-300 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns are definitely possible.
12. Matt Cassel – KC = Buf / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Seemingly gaining more and more comfort in the Chiefs offense, Cassel is gaining steam and reliability towards becoming a solid starting fantasy football QB. A matchup against the Bills defense at home in KC should have Cassel once again eyeing 225 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns this week.
13. Carson Palmer – Cin = Mia
Not a sexy fantasy football QB, but Palmer somehow keeps churning out 300 plus passing yard games. Another 250 plus passing yards could easily be in store for Palmer this week.
14. Mark Sanchez – NYJ = GB
Nothing special for Sanchez this week, but the Packers defense has been injury ravaged so anything is possible for Sanchez in this matchup.
15. Matthew Stafford – Det = Was / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Coming off of the bye week, it looks like Stafford will be ready to go for this game. However it would be wise to temper your expectations for Stafford this week, as it would make more sense to spot start a QB like Matt Cassel or Ryan Fitzpatrick over Stafford this week.
16. Josh Freeman – TB = @Ari / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
17. Brett Favre – Min = @NE / injury ?
18. Matt Hasselbeck – Sea = @Oak
19. Chad Henne – Mia = @Cin
20. Matt Moore – Car = @StL
21. Sam Bradford – StL = Car
22. Vince Young – Ten = @SD / injury ?
23. Kerry Collins – Ten = @SD
24. Troy Smith – SF = Den
25. David Garrard – Jac = @Dal
26. Todd Bouman – Jac = @Dal
27. Jason Campbell – Oak = Sea
28. Bruce Gradkowski – Oak = Sea
29. Max Hall – Ari = TB
30. Derek Anderson – Ari = TB
31. Alex Smith – SF = Den / injury ?
32. David Carr – SF = Den
33. Tarvaris Jackson – Min = @NE
34. Tim Tebow – Den = @SF
35. Shaun Hill – Det = Was / injury ?
36. Drew Stanton – Det = Was
37. Jimmy Clausen – Car = @StL
2. Tony Romo – Dal = Jac / injury ? – OUT – WILL NOT PLAY
updated: broken clavical sustained in monday nights game will cost Romo several weeks
With an unproductive running game for the Cowboys this season, Romo and the passing attack should be out in full force in this game, against a very bad Jaguars pass defense that leads the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed at 16 through just 7 games this season. Romo seems like a great bet to hit that passing touchdowns allowed average of at least 2 in this game. Expecting stats in the range of 300 passing yards and 2-3 touchdowns seems very likely for Romo in this game.
