Kobe’s Week 9 NFL Picks
Lets kick this weeks picks off with listing the Bye Week teams; Broncos, Jaguars, 49ers, Rams, Titans, and Redskins. The Broncos, Titans, and Redskins could really use the time to heal up and re-group after tough losses.
Last week I went 2-2 bringing my season total to 14-18 with last weeks picks of Indy and the Saints that were my winners and the Titans and Jets being on the losing end of my picks. I think I say this every week but this year has been difficult in making picks with the parity in the league.
I guess this week the ultimate question is where Randy Moss will end up. If he makes it through the waiver process I have a sneaky suspicion that the Jets might make a play for Moss. I can see Rex Ryan making a bold move like that to get under the Pats skin.
Game #1: New York Jets@ Detroit Lions (UPSET SPECIAL)
The Jets are coming off a shutout loss to the Packers and I think I can say most if not all experts didn’t predict a shutout in that game. The Packers held the Jets offense down but more importantly they forced 3 turnovers.
The Lions, on the other hand, came out and put pressure on McNabb getting 6 sacks including a fumble recovery for a TD. Matt Stafford threw 4 TD’s in his first action since week 1 when he was sidelined with a shoulder injury complements of Julius Peppers.
The Lions are up-and-coming and last weeks win gave them confidence that they can win a game when its on the line and for an added bonus they are at Ford Field.
What if: If the Jets can open up the running lanes for LT and Greene to keep the Lions 6th ranked scoring offense off the field they can win this game.
Prediction: Jets 21 Lions 24
Game #2: Kansas City Chiefs@ Oakland Raiders
These two teams are 1 and 2 in the AFC West when most experts had them picked 3 and 4. This rivalry will be in high gear this week with the Raiders fans enjoying a better than usual season and the Chiefs playing to keep a 2 game lead in the division.
The Chiefs running game has been great ranked #1 in yards gained and a major reason why they are winning games. The Raiders are ranked #2 in the league even with missing their leading rusher Darren McFadden for 2 games this season.
Look for a home team victory this week, for no other reason than I feel these teams will each win on their home fields this season.
What if: If Matt Cassel has a better than average week look for a Chiefs win.
Prediction: Kansas City 17 Oakland 24
Game #3: New York Giants@ Seattle Seahawks
The Giants look like the team that made the post season run to the Super Bowl in 2008 when they ended the Patriots unbeaten streak. The Defense is playing great and the running game along with the rest of the Offense is playing very well. The Offense is ranked 3rd in total yards per game and the Defense is ranked 2nd is total yards given up per game. Note: I may have missed one but to-date I count 4 quarterbacks knocked out by the Pass Rush of the Giants.
Seattle has been a very interesting team to watch. They have been very inconsistent on the road losing 3 of 4 but playing tough at home winning all 3 games with victories over the 49ers, Chargers, and Cardinals.
I think the travel will be tough for the Giants and an early lead for the Seahawks can cause some problems for the Giants in a very loud stadium.
What if: The Giants can bring heavy pressure on Hasselbeck look for a very rough outing for the Seahawks.
Prediction: New York Giants 22 Seattle Seahawks 23
Game #4: Chicago Bears@ Buffalo Bills
The Bills have lost their last 2 games each by 3 points to the Ravens and Chiefs. So what’s the big deal? The Bills may have found their Quarterback of the future in Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is having the best season of his career.
Fitzpatrick looks confident in the pocket and will pull the ball down and run for 1st downs if he needs too. Fitzpatrick is in his 2nd season with the Bills and in his 5th season in the NFL. It appears that Fitzpatrick and the Chan Gailey Offense is a good marriage
The Bears are coming off a much needed Bye week with hopes of fixing some of the protection and play calling issues on Offense. Problem is the Mike Martz Offense brings with it these problems and it doesn’t look like he is changing his schemes or play calling anytime soon.
I feel this week will be the week the Bills get that 1st win and what better place to get it than at home.
What if: If Matt Forte is utilized better in the run game and the Bears don’t turn the ball over look for a Bears victory.
Prediction: Chicago Bears 23 Buffalo Bills 27
