Week 9 – QB Rankings
1. Aaron Rodgers – GB = Dal
After a tough matchup last week against the Jets, Rodgers should return to his familiar fantasy football gold form this week against a struggling Dallas defense that allowed 260 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes to David Garrard last week. Rodgers could easily be pushing 300 passing yards and 2-3 touchdowns in this game.
2. Philip Rivers – SD = @Hou
What do you get when you combine the best passing offense against the worst passing defense in the NFL? The sensible answer seems to involve Rivers throwing for over 300 passing yards and 3 touchdowns in this game.
3. Peyton Manning – Ind = @Phi
Nothing special about this matchup, but Manning will once again carry the Colts offensive attack. Stats in the range of 225-300 passing yards and 2 touchdowns seem like a good bet, as Manning is clearly one of the safest fantasy football QBs that you can start.
4. Drew Brees – NO = @Car
A matchup in Carolina against what has been a very stingy Panthers pass defense so far this season, does not exactly exude a nice rosy feeling for Brees this week. However after Brees proved me right last week in putting up solid stats against an excellent Pittsburgh defense, I think a similar game could be in store for Brees this week. 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
5. Tom Brady – NE = @Cle
Nice matchup for the New England offense this week, but a lack of big play weapons among the Patriots receivers has really put a damper on Brady’s passing stats. However a matchup against the Cleveland Browns still offers too much potential and upside to not give Brady a chance this week in fantasy football lineups. 200-250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is within reach.
6. Matt Ryan – Atl = TB
Fresh off the bye week, Ryan should see plenty of room in the Buccaneers secondary to find his big receivers. However on the downside, the Falcons may elect to run the ball quite a bit in this game, as the Buccaneers have allowed an average of 149 rushing yards per game so far this season. Still the potential for a very efficient and nearly sure bet solid stat game is definitely there for Ryan this week. 225-275 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
7. Joe Flacco – Bal = Mia
By no means an easy matchup for Flacco and the passing attack this week, but since his rough start to the season, Flacco has been the clear leader of the Ravens offense in recent weeks, even more so than Ray Rice. Another solid passing game should be in store for Flacco this week, with stats in the range of 225-275 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns.
8. Matt Schaub – Hou = SD
Granted the Chargers defense has been very good against the pass this season, but at the same time they have not been invincible either. All in all, Schaub and the Texans passing attack offers too much potential to not be in the majority of fantasy football starting lineups this week.
9. Ben Roethlisberger – Pit = @Cin
After a rough game last week against the Saints, Roethlisberger should have a nice bounce back game in store for this week against a struggling Bengals defense. 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is definitely within range.
10. Eli Manning – NYG = @Sea
The Seahawks defense was an absolute mess against the Raiders offense last week as they allowed a ridiculous 310 passing yards and 2 touchdowns to Jason Campbell. Manning could easily be looking at 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns in this game.
11. Kevin Kolb – Phi = Ind / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
If Kolb is named the starter over Michael Vick, this weeks matchup is a solid one for him. At under 50% owned, Kolb would be an excellent spot starting QB for those fantasy teams in need.
12. Michael Vick – Phi = Ind
If Vick is the starter, this is a very good matchup for him to continue his pre-injury excellence.
13. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Buf = Chi / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Granted he did not have the type of huge stat game that many had hoped for last week, but there is no doubt that Fitzpatrick is a solid spot starting QB right now. A matchup at home against a so-so Bears pass defense should result in another solid game for Fitzpatrick this week. Fantasy teams in need of a spot starter can expect Fitzpatrick to get them at least 200 passing yards and 1 touchdown this week.
14. Jay Cutler – Chi = @Buf
On paper this is a good matchup for the Bears passing game, but Cutler simply cannot be trusted, unless you are trusting him to throw around 2 interceptions. However the potential for 250 plus passing yards and 1or 2 touchdowns passes is also, there which makes him a decent play in deep leagues this week.
15. Mark Sanchez – NYJ = @Det
Detroit’s defense is no pushover anymore.
16. Matthew Stafford – Det = NYJ
Stafford looked great last week in his return from injury, but this is a no doubt tough matchup against one of the best defenses and secondaries in the NFL. Check what Aaron Rodgers was able to do against the Jets defense last week, Stafford could be in for a similar outcome this week.
17. Matt Cassel – KC = @Oak / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Cassel has not looked great, but he is simply getting the job done for the Kansas City offense, and fantasy football teams who are relying on him. Another decent but not great stats output can be expected this week, likely to the tune of around 200 passing yards and 1 touchdown.
18. Jon Kitna – Dal = @GB
If the Packers defense can play like they did last week against Mark Sanchez and the Jets offense, then Kitna could be in for a rough day.
19. Josh Freeman – TB = @Atl / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
A successful running game with LaGarrett Blount could start to open up a lot of things for Freeman in the passing game.
20. Jason Campbell – Oak = KC / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Who knew Campbell had a 300 passing yard game in him last week! Crazy.
21. Brett Favre – Min = Ari / injury ?
22. Chad Henne – Mia = @Bal
23. Carson Palmer – Cin = Pit
24. Colt McCoy – Cle = NE / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
25. Derek Anderson – Ari = @Min
26. Charlie Whitehurst – Sea = NYG
27. Matt Moore – Car = NO
28. Tarvaris Jackson – Min = Ari
29. Max Hall – Ari = @Min
30. Bruce Gradkowski – Oak = KC
31. Seneca Wallace – Cle = NE
32. Jake Delhomme – Cle = NE
33. Jimmy Clausen – Car = NO
Tony Romo – Dal = @GB / injured – will not play
Matt Hasselbeck – Sea = NYG / injured – will not play
Donovan McNabb – Was = BYE
Kyle Orton – Den = BYE
Sam Bradford – StL = BYE
David Garrard – Jac = BYE
Vince Young – Ten = BYE
Troy Smith – SF = BYE
Alex Smith – SF = BYE
Kerry Collins – Ten = BYE
Tim Tebow – Den = BYE
