Week 9 – WR Rankings
1. Roddy White – Atl = TB
Currently ranking second in the NFL with 747 receiving yards, White could easily tack on another 100 yards to his total this week. Add in the fact that Larry Fitzgerald tallied 6 receptions for 72 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns with a terrible quarterback throwing to him last week against the Buccaneers defense, and Roddy White having Matt Ryan throwing to him could be a nightmare for the Buccaneers defense this week. 6-12 receptions, 100-150 receiving yards and 1-2 touchdowns are definitely within reach for White in this game.
2. Reggie Wayne – Ind = @Phi
The most reliable, trustworthy, and healthiest wide receiver on the entire Colts team, Wayne is just simply too dependable and consistent of a fantasy football WR to rank him any lower. At least with Wayne you pretty much know what you will get each week, and the potential for a huge game is always lurking in the picture as well.
3. Andre Johnson – Hou = SD
Even though the Chargers are the top rated pass defense in the league so far this season, giving up a league best average of just 176 passing yards per game, I think the Chargers will struggle covering Johnson this week. Considering Johnson’s size and ability, the Chargers secondary simply does not have anyone that big and tall to cover him in this matchup. I would expect Johnson to top the 100 receiving yard mark in this game, to go along with at least 1 touchdown.
4. Hakeem Nicks – NYG = @Sea
Fresh off the bye week, Nicks could easily be in store for a huge game this week against a Seahawks pass defense that has been nearly awful this season, allowing an average of 267 passing yards per game so far this year. Add in the kicker of Darrius Heyward-Bey tallying 5 receptions for 105 receiving yards and 1 touchdown against the Seahawks defense last week, and Nicks could be an unstoppable force in this game. 6-12 receptions for 100-150 receiving yards and 1-2 touchdowns is definitely possible for Nicks this week.
5. Greg Jennings – GB = Dal
Easily the Packers top offensive scoring threat right now, Jennings is the most reliable and trustworthy target for Aaron Rodgers in this game. Match that up against a Cowboys defense that has struggled mightily against the pass lately, including allowing 8 receptions for 153 receiving yards and 1 touchdown to Mike Sims-Walker last week, and Jennings seemingly could be in for a huge game this week. 100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is definitely within reach, and more could easily be in store as well.
6. Miles Austin – Dal = @GB
The Packers secondary has struggled at times this season, and Charles Woodson has not been the shutdown corner that he was last season. However in the end, Austin’s potential stat line in this game lies directly in the hope that the Cowboys offensive line can give Jon Kitna enough time to throw the ball. Luckily for Austin, he run plenty of short patterns, so he should still get an ample amount of passes his way in this game. 5-10 receptions, 75-125 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible.
7. Anquan Boldin – Bal = Mia
The Ravens leading receiver across the board in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, Boldin has proven to be a reliable source for fantasy football teams this season, and he is easily Joe Flacco’s preferred top target. A matchup against a likely stingy Dolphins run defense, could easily result in more passing plays for the Ravens offense this week. Boldin offers 4-8 reception, 100 receiving yard and 1 touchdown stat potential in this game.
8. Calvin Johnson – Det = NYJ
This will easily be Johnson’s toughest matchup all season, however given his size and strength at 6-5 and 236, it will be the 5-11 Darrell Revis who has the tougher end of the stick to hold up this week. And if the Jets elect to have the taller Antonio Cromartie cover Johnson instead, then that would seemingly be even better for Johnson. Add in a healthy Matthew Stafford who looked every bit as good last week, and Johnson has plenty of potential to put up solid stats again this week even though the matchup is not ideal.
9. Dwayne Bowe – KC = @Oak
While the receiving yardage was not there last week for Bowe, he still managed to be successful in tallying another touchdown reception. Bowe now has at least one touchdown in three straight games, and he boasts a total of 6 touchdowns so far this season through just 7 games. Add in an ankle injury that Raiders shutdown corner Nnamdi Asomugha suffered in last weeks game, and it looks like Bowe could be home free in this game as Asomugha likely will not play in this matchup. 75-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is definitely within range for Bowe in this game.
10. Marques Colston – NO = @Car
Finally finding some chemistry once again with Drew Brees over the past two weeks, Colston should be gaining the trust of fantasy football teams heading into this weeks game. A matchup against the Panthers secondary should not slow down the Brees to Colston connection this week, so stats in the range of 75-100 receiving yards is definitely within reach, and a touchdown is possible as well.
11. Pierre Garcon – Ind = @Phi
12. Percy Harvin – Min = Ari
13. Larry Fitzgerald – Ari = @Min
14. Brandon Marshall – Mia = @Bal
15. Jeremy Maclin – Phi = Ind
16. Hines Ward – Pit = @Cin
17. Dez Bryant – Dal = @GB
18. Mike Wallace – Pit = @Cin
19. Wes Welker – NE = @Cle
Aside from the first two games of the season, Welker has been a terrible WR for fantasy football teams. In five games after those first two games, Welker has tallied receiving yards of just 45, 70, 53, 25, and 24 receiving yards in each game respectively. That just does not cut it for fantasy football teams. So if you ask me, this matchup against the Cleveland Browns does not mean a guaranteed good game from Welker….but if we are being frank, this is a good place to start for a turnaround from Welker.
