Week eight of “Dancing With the Stars” saw the eighth couple of the season sent home. At the end of the Tuesday results show, it was Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya that were eliminated from the show, but it was a bit surprising that the lowest scoring couple survived yet another week of the competition.
During week eight of the competition, the final five couples all had to complete two dances for the judges. The first dance was much like in past weeks, where producers gave them a dance type and the song, and they were allowed to prepare as they pleased. With the second dance, the producers decided to use an “instant dance” format, where the dancers wouldn’t learn their song until the day of the competition. They were given their dance type though, so the professional dancer was able to come up with a routine that they hoped their celebrity could do without the music.
During the first round of dances, it was Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy that showcased the best performance, scoring 29 out of 30 from the judges on a really nice Waltz. They seemed to be really close to a perfect score, but couldn’t get that third judge to give them a 10. Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough performed a Quick Step, and Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer performed a Viennese Waltz, with both couples scoring nice scores of 27 out of 30 to sit nicely in the standings.
In the “instant dance”, it was again those three couples that performed splendidly, with Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough netting a perfect score with a very nice Rhumba. They ended up tied with Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy in first place with combined scores of 57 out of 60. At the bottom of the scoreboard was Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas though, who had scored a combined 47 out of 60 by doing an Argentine Tango and a Samba as their two dances.
November 8 “Dancing With the Stars“ Scores (Week Eight):
*Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy — 29/30 (FD) + 28/30 (ID) = 57/60
*Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough — 27/30 (FD) + 30/30 (ID) = 57/60
*Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer — 27/30 (FD) + 29/30 (ID) = 56/60
*Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya — 24/30 (FD) + 24/30 (ID) = 48/60
*Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas — 24/30 (FD) + ID (23/30) = 47/60
(**FD = First Dance / ID = Instant Dance)
During the Tuesday, Nov. 9 results show, it was Jennifer Grey, Bristol Palin, and Kyle Massey that were the celebrities that received good news early in the show. It was down to Brandy and Kurt Warner as to which celebrity was going home, and the fans found out that the latest couple to be eliminated from the show was Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya.
Now there are just four couples left this season, all of which will perform in the semi-finals on Monday, Nov. 15 beginning at 8 pm. The three couples that survive this next week will compete in the “Dancing With the Stars” season 11 finals the following week to decide which couple wins the mirror ball trophy for 2010.
