Get ready to celebrate America’s weird and wacky holidays in October. Americans celebrate crazy national and created holidays almost every day of the year. If you would like to create a new weird and wacky holiday, share your proposal for a new holiday with your congressman. Get your proposal on the congressional agenda. The process takes a lot of work and years to accomplish. If you don’t want to go through all the bother to have an official national day you can just create your own holiday and celebrate! Let’s look at some of the weird and wacky holidays in October.
October 2nd is Name Your Car Day. This is the traditional day for you to give your car a name. A vehicle is important, so honor that old car, new car, junker, or your pride and joy, by giving it a name!
October 3rd is National Techies Day. Let’s all give a big thanks to the smartie-pants who keep our world advancing. Without them we would still be using rotary phones and watching black and white televisions!
October 8th is National Pierogi Day, a weird and wacky holiday that I am going to celebrate for sure! Cook up a big mess of pierogies for dinner and chow down. If you’ve never had a pierogy, today is the holiday to taste them.
October 10th is Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work or School Day. This weird and wacky holiday is easy to celebrate by giving your favorite Teddy Bear a day out of the house and showing him off at work or school.
Feeling grouchy? Celebrate on October 15, National Grouch Day! It’s a day for all of the grouches, so get ready to grumble, grouch, and be nasty. Oscar the Grouch, from Sesame Street, can be your role model on this holiday.
For all of you guys with beards: here’s a heads-up: October 18th is No Beards Day. Celebrate this weird and wacky holiday by shaving off your beard, showing the world what you look like under that hair. Get ready, set, …shave!
On October 17th plan on wearing your most outlandish outfit for Wear Something Gaudy Day. Have some uninhibited fun and show the world your zany side! This weird and wacky holiday has its roots in the 1970’s sitcom, Three’s Company. One of its characters, Larry Dallas, declared a Wear Something Gaudy Day, and it took off.
October 24th is National Bologna Day. Celebrate by eating bologna all day. You’ll be full of baloney!
October 29th is Dracula Bites Day. This weird and wacky holiday should appeal to fans of vampires. Celebrate by learning about Count Dracula or watching a spooky vampire movie!
