Chapel of Bones, Portugal- The first time walking in to this chapel, you come to the eerie realization that you are surrounded by the bones of 5,000 people. There are bones in every sight line of this chapel. Travelers that arrive at this location are freaked out by the rows of human heads, stacks of ribs and strange illustrations that are on the walls. Seems as though the whole place is obsessed with death and macabre figures.
Torture Museum, Amsterdam- This museum is one of the smallest in the world and is not meant for those with weak stomachs. The Torture Museum is filled with machines and devices that were used to torture those back in the Middle Age era. Machines and devices consist of; the guillotine, a limb-dislocating rack and the skull cracker. Along the walls are illustrations of real men being tortured by these devices.
Port Arthur Historic Sites, Tasmania- This 19th century colony is home to the deaths of over 2,000 people. Violent convicts were sent to a dark, isolated room to spend their court ordered sentences. Then, in 1996, a strange man murdered 35 workers and visitors on the property. Since then there has been proven to be paranormal activity in the area. None of which are the workers, visitors, or convicts. The ghosts seem to be that of a crying woman and child.
Museo de las Momias, Mexico- Mexican museums tend to hold the most disturbing and unbelievable artifacts. This museum is one of them. The Guanajuato museum holds over 111 preserved human mummies. All of which were mummified between the years 1865-1989. Their facial expressions are particularly scary and their fists are clenched as if they were left in agony. There are also a handful of babies that have been mummified as well.
Capuchin Catacombs, Sicily- Mob hits aren’t the only thing that fill this entire Catacomb. As a matter of fact, it’s the bones and remains of over 8,000 people. All of these people are still dressed in the clothes they were once buried in. The bodies span over five centuries and are known to be poets and virgins. There is one body in particular that shocks visitors all around the world. The death of a two year old happened in 1920 and the body is still intact.
Paris Catacombs, France- This is not a museum, but a warehouse where workers stored and produced goods for the country. Over the years, it turned in to a completely different place. There are human skulls and bones placed on both sides of the walls of the corridors. Only a small majority of this warehouse is shown to the public. The part that can be shown, visitors have said that they could see a slight hint of the decomposition of the bones.
Mutter Museum, Philadelphia- Philadelphia’s Mutter Museum shows shocking chronicals of abnormalities and diseases that eat away at human flesh. The exhibits in this museum show old, riddled bones, a 40 pound colon and diseased livers. Filling the walls are skeletons of giants, dwarfs and Siamese twins. There are also hundreds and hundreds of skulls to be displayed.
Easter Island, Chile- Easter Island is very much unlike the other places I have talked about in this article. This beautiful, yet creepy place in Chile, is filled with huge cut stone figures that are engraved into the soil after hundreds of years. The figures are in the shape of giants and look up at the sky as if they have done something wrong and are crying for forgiveness.
Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, Belize- This cave is meant for the travelers that love to hike. Only problem is, these hikers have to swim through deep, black water just to get to the cave. Hundreds of years ago, Mayans practiced human sacrifice and the bodies and remains were left in the cave. The most disturbing skeleton in the cave is a young teenage girl that goes by the name of Crystal Maiden. It is known that her bones sparkle, unlike the other skeletons in the cave.
Windchester Mystery House, California- Sarah Windchester took 32 years out of her life to build an oversized mansion. It is proven that three angry ghosts haunt the entire mansion and aren’t fond of visitors. Guests that stay overnight say they have heard and seen organs playing, lights turning on and off, door knobs turning, and ghostly figures. The ghosts that haunt this mansion are unknown.
